A new Superman prequel book was released yesterday ahead of the movie’s release in theaters in July. It’s called Superman: Welcome to Metropolis, and it’s just 144 pages, and made for younger readers, but it could still give fans some clues about what to expect in the new DC Universe.

The story follows a young Clark Kent as he starts his job at The Daily Planet while learning to be Superman. He also faces a new mystery that might involve Lex Luthor. Even though it’s a kids’ book, fans might find some interesting details about the movie world James Gunn is creating.

The book includes an eight-page section with color pictures and character info. It’s being published by Penguin Random House.

Fortunately, the book did reveal several interesting information regarding the upcoming movie, and the new DC world in general.

The book says that Superman already fought Metallo before the events of the movie, for example:

Clark also wears his Superman suit under his regular clothes, just like in the classic stories.

A new villain named the Hammer of Boravia will be introduced in the movie, and the book says he’s just as strong as Superman.

Green Lantern Guy Gardner shows up and uses his ring to make some fun and strange things. He creates stuff like a water bottle that filters water, a flying board to ride on, a big net, a trampoline, a battering ram, a spear, a cactus, an octopus, and even a jet engine.

All of this helps build a picture of a DC Universe that’s already full of heroes, action, and history before Superman’s big movie story even starts.

It’s clear, if you want to find out more about the new world, make sure to check out ‘Welcome to Metropolis.’
