Fans of Interview With the Vampire are about to see the series take a completely different direction. After two seasons focused mostly on Louis and his painful memories, the story is now shifting toward Lestat in a much louder, darker, and far more chaotic way.

Season 3 is now officially titled The Vampire Lestat and will adapt the second novel from Anne Rice’s famous Vampire Chronicles series. This time, viewers will experience the story directly through Lestat’s perspective as the vampire throws himself into the spotlight as a rock star determined to tell his version of events.

Sam Reid returns as Lestat, and from everything revealed so far, the new season looks much bigger and wilder than before. The elegant gothic drama of the earlier seasons is still there, but now it is mixed with concerts, fame, anger, violence, and a massive ego. Lestat is no longer hiding in the shadows. He wants attention from the entire world.

“It’s my era. I’m a rock star now,” Lestat says in the new season.

Entertainment Weekly shared new images and details from the upcoming episodes, including a look at Lestat performing on stage in leather outfits and sunglasses while surrounded by screaming fans. Showrunner Rolin Jones described the season as the series’ “biggest swing” yet and explained that they wanted the show to feel dangerous and unpredictable.

“Safety was not really an option,” Jones said.

Jacob Anderson, who plays Louis, described the tone of the season as “tonal whiplash in the most intentional way.” The actor explained that the series is moving away from Louis’ emotional narration and diving fully into Lestat’s chaotic personality.

The new season reportedly begins after journalist Daniel Molloy publishes his explosive book about Louis and Lestat’s lives. Lestat becomes furious about how he was portrayed and decides to fight back by telling his own story through a documentary tied to his worldwide music tour.

Eric Bogosian returns as Daniel, but this time the relationship between Daniel and Lestat is expected to be far more aggressive and confrontational. Bogosian described their dynamic as an unstoppable clash between two stubborn personalities.

The season will also dig much deeper into Lestat’s past and the emotional damage that shaped him. Sam Reid explained that beneath all the confidence and cruelty, Lestat is still someone desperate to be loved and understood.

“I think, like so many people, he does just want to be loved,” Reid said.

One of the biggest additions this season is Gabriella, Lestat’s mother, played by Jennifer Ehle. Their relationship is expected to shock many viewers because of how emotionally intense and disturbing it becomes. According to the cast and creators, however, the story is meant to explore trauma, freedom, and obsession rather than simply provoke audiences.

Ehle described Gabriella as a woman who spent most of her human life trapped and powerless before becoming completely transformed as a vampire.

“She’s then liberated and given complete and utter freedom,” Ehle said. “A monster, but a completely liberated monster.”

The Vampire Lestat premieres June 7 on AMC and AMC+. Based on everything revealed so far, the new season looks set to be louder, stranger, bloodier, and much more emotional than anything the series has done before.
