News broke this week that actor Jacob Elordi will not be attending the Cannes Film Festival, even though he was reportedly considered for an official jury role.

The festival, known as one of the biggest events in global cinema, is set to run from May 12 to May 23 this year and brings together major names from the film industry.

According to reports from Variety and Page Six, Elordi had to step away from the role because of a broken foot. An insider cited by Page Six confirmed the injury and said it was the reason he could not take part in the jury panel.

The jury at Cannes usually includes a group of well-known actors and industry figures who watch the competition films and decide the winner of the Palme d’Or, the festival’s top prize. This year’s jury was officially announced on May 4, and Elordi was not included in the final lineup.

At the same time, the news quickly spread online and sparked reactions from fans of Euphoria, where Elordi plays Nate Jacobs. The timing stood out to viewers because of a recent storyline in the show involving his character.

In a recent episode of the series, Nate goes through a violent confrontation that results in a graphic injury to his foot. Because of that scene, some fans online started joking about the real-life injury news, suggesting a strange connection between the two events.

On social media platform X, users reacted with a mix of shock and humor. One person wrote, “Omg it’s because they cut his toe off in euphoria….” Another added, “foot injury? you mean toe?” Others joked about method acting or suggested the coincidence felt too strange to ignore.

However, there is no link between the show and Elordi’s real injury. Reports confirmed that the scene in Euphoria used a prosthetic effect for filming, not a real injury. Actor Jack Topalian, who appears in the scene, explained in an interview with Page Six how the moment was filmed. He said, “The clippers that they gave me have pretty sharp edges. So I had to be really mindful of that, because at one point, I do put it around Jake’s toe.”

He added, “If I squeezed a little too hard, it would literally cut his toe. But, everything turned out well! There were no mishaps, no accidents.”
