‘Superman’ is currently the hottest upcoming DCU project, despite the Creature Commandos being released first. Now after months of speculation and planning, Gunn was overjoyed to announce that ‘Superman’ had begun principal photography on February 29th which was, coincidentally, Superman’s birthday, in Svalbard, Norway’s Adventdalen Valley. The location was chosen for its resemblance to the Arctic and natural beauty.

Naturally, since the filming of the movie is currently underway, more and more scoops and leaks are coming to light. Next to nothing is known about the plot of the upcoming movie, but that doesn’t stop us from speculating, and every once in a while, those speculations become viral.

Yesterday, notable scooper and leaker Daniel Richtman posted on his private Patreon account that the main villain of the upcoming ‘Superman’ will be Ultraman. Fans had no reason to question the validity of these rumors since the Ultraman-Bizarro pipeline is often used. Those rumors were eventually bound to reach James Gunn, as he always has the tendency to dispel those rumors and further discredit the leakers.

Gunn found out about the Ultraman rumors and decided to address it on Threads.

Gunn pointed out that he doesn’t know where those rumors are coming from but he can confirm that the main villain of the upcoming movie will be Lex Luthor. This is … not a surprise as he was among the first cast members to be confirmed played by Hoult.

Several fans pointed out in the comments that the Ultraman rumors weren’t actually legit acts of “wrong sources” but a ploy to get Gunn to reveal the actual villain of the movie, which he did.

On March 8th, ‘Superman’ filming resumed at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, with plans to continue until August 2. Additional filming locations include Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Macon. The movie is set to introduce members of the Authority and other superheroes, including Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, a Green Lantern. ‘Superman’ is expected to be released on July 11, 2025.
