James Gunn’s latest movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, has been playing in theaters for over two weeks now and has already grossed over $550 worldwide. Even with anticipated blockbusters Fast X, which was released this weekend, and The Little Mermaid, which will be released next weekend, it is expected that the movie’s worldwide income will continue to increase, although it’s hard to bet that it can reach a billion dollar mark.

With the release of his latest movie, James Gunn has now focused on his next project. Superman: Legacy is one of the most important DC projects currently in development. The success or failure of this film will direct the future of DC on the big screen and the new DCU universe that James Gunn is developing with Peter Safran. It’s known that Gunn likes to spend some time on social media every day, and today he talked more about fake rumors around the internet. Still, he also provided another update on Superman: Legacy.

James Gunn confirms that he began storyboarding, as the screenplay is beyond the first draft!

In one of his recent tweets, DC Studios’ co-CEO expressed frustration as he found hundreds of rumors about his next movie and the upcoming DCU shared universe. Gunn mentioned that only one of those rumors is half-true, but of course, he won’t say anything officially, and no one can blame him for that.

At the end of the tweet, Gunn confirmed that he’s currently working on the storyboard for Superman: Legacy. One of the followers asked him why he was working on the storyboard if the screenplay was still in the first draft, and Gunn replied that the script’s development was far beyond the first draft. Following a whole series of failures and unfortunate events, Warner Bros. Discovery decided to send the current DCEU to rest this year and start a whole thing again from the ground up. Gunn announced last February the list of the first DCU projects. Superman: Legacy is set to kick off DCU in July 2025, although the DCU project, in general, will be Creature Commandos, the upcoming animated series written by Gunn, which is set to be released next year on MAX.

Nothing solid is known about Superman: Legacy so far, apart from some behind the scene news. Gunn confirmed that he turned in the movie’s screenplay before the ongoing WGA strike, which means the movie’s development won’t suffer any delays because of it. Gunn also confirmed that filming is set to begin in January, but he still remains silent about the movie’s cast. Previous reports mentioned several actors for the roles of Clark Kent and Lois Lane. One of the potential actresses for Lois Lane even had to say something about it, although she also remained coy.

The official cast is expected to be revealed by the end of this year, most likely during the Summer at one of the upcoming comic book conventions. One of Gunn’s followers asked him if he would attend the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con in July to reveal the cast officially, but Gunn either didn’t see the tweet or refused to answer. Ultimately, we still can’t do anything but wait for more updates.

Superman: Legacy, written and directed by James Gunn, is set to be released on July 11, 2025.
