Jennifer Aniston is set to star in a new series for Apple TV+ inspired by Jennette McCurdy’s memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died, according to Variety. The show has been given a 10-episode order and will explore the complicated relationship between a young actress and her controlling mother.

The series will focus on the story of an 18-year-old actress who stars in a popular kids’ show, and her narcissistic mother, who takes pride in being “a starlet’s mother.” Jennifer Aniston will play the mother, bringing to life the tough and demanding parent described in McCurdy’s memoir.

The show promises to be both heartbreaking and funny, capturing the struggles of growing up in the spotlight with a difficult family life.

Jennette McCurdy is best known for her role on Nickelodeon’s iCarly and has appeared in several other TV shows and movies. Her memoir, published in 2022 by Simon & Schuster, quickly became a New York Times bestseller and stayed on the list for over a year.

McCurdy is not just the inspiration behind the series but will also be heavily involved in its creation. She will co-write, executive produce, and run the show alongside Ari Katcher, known for Ramy and the Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show. Jennifer Aniston will also serve as an executive producer through her company Echo Films.

Other executive producers include Sharon Horgan and Stacy Greenberg from Merman, Dani Gorin, Tom Ackerley, and Josey McNamara from LuckyChap, as well as Jerrod Carmichael and Erica Kay. Apple Studios will handle the production.

This new project adds to Jennifer Aniston’s growing work with Apple TV+, where she also stars in and executive produces the hit series The Morning Show. That show is about to launch its fourth season in September, and Aniston’s work on it has earned her Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.

Sharon Horgan’s involvement continues her partnership with Apple as well. She previously created Bad Sisters for the platform, with the show’s second season set to air in late 2024.

This series looks like it will offer an honest and powerful look at the challenges Jennette McCurdy faced growing up in Hollywood, with Jennifer Aniston bringing her star power to the role of the demanding mother.

Variety first reported on the show.
