More than five years after ‘Supernatural’ ended, Jensen Ackles, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins reunited on-screen for the first time.

The episode, which debuted on April 29, features Ackles’ Soldier Boy heading to Los Angeles with Homelander and ending at the mansion of Mister Marathon, portrayed by Padalecki, where they encounter a slew of celebrity cameos playing poker. The moment marked a historic convergence of two beloved franchises helmed by the same creative visionary.

Eric Kripke, the mastermind behind the first five seasons of ‘Supernatural’, has sprinkled veterans from the series throughout ‘The Boys’ in both major and minor capacities. However, the reunion of the show’s three most iconic stars represented something far more significant than typical callbacks.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Jensen Ackles revealed he was nervous about having them on set, explaining that they spent nearly two decades together and remain friends for life. Ackles compared watching Collins and Padalecki film to watching his kid play, saying they crushed it, and described the scenes he filmed with them as ‘disgusting’ and ‘outrageous’.

According to Deadline, Ackles noted there was a ‘minor mental adjustment’ in working with Padalecki and Collins in a new environment with different costumes, crew, and cast compared to their 2005-’20 CW series.

The actor explained that the odd thing was doing it in this new context, but emphasized that he, Padalecki, and Collins played different versions of themselves on ‘Supernatural’ for 15 years, so playing different characters together wasn’t a stretch. The chemistry between the three actors was unmistakable, with takes constantly ruined because the actors couldn’t keep their composure during filming.

Padalecki plays Mister Marathon, a speedster supe who lost his position in the Seven and now runs a sketchy operation dealing in black market V1, while Collins portrays Malchemical, a supe who can produce deadly poisonous gases from his breath. Padalecki and Collins’ characters represent a departure from what fans know them for, with both actors rising to the occasion and going toe-to-toe with everyone on screen.

The reunion wasn’t fan service alone, but narrative brutality wrapped in dark comedy that honors both the actors and the series’ tone.

While ‘The Boys’ will debut its series finale on May 20, Jensen Ackles is continuing with Soldier Boy in the upcoming prequel ‘Vought Rising’, which comes to Prime Video in 2027. For fans who spent 15 years watching these three actors carry ‘Supernatural’, the unexpected reunion served as a bittersweet reminder of the family bonds forged across a generation of television.
