Jimmy Kimmel on Charlie Kirk Shooting: “Can We Stop ‘Angry Finger Pointing’”
Jimmy Kimmel has shared his thoughts on the shooting & death of Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA. Kirk, a close supporter of Donald Trump, was killed at age 31 after being shot during a debate at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. His death was first confirmed by Trump on Truth Social.
On Instagram, Kimmel urged people to pause the anger and finger-pointing in the wake of Kirk’s killing. “Instead of the angry finger-pointing, can we just for one day agree that it is horrible and monstrous to shoot another human?” he wrote.
He added, “On behalf of my family, we send love to the Kirks and to all the children, parents and innocents who fall victim to senseless gun violence.”
Kirk was shot in the neck while speaking with students and rushed to the hospital by his security team, but he did not survive. Trump posted an emotional message about Kirk, calling him “The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk.”
He added, “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”
Kimmel and Trump have often clashed over the years. The late-night host has been one of Trump’s harshest critics, and Trump has responded in kind, regularly mocking Kimmel on Truth Social. Just this summer, Trump claimed “Jimmy Kimmel Live” would be the next late-night show to be canceled after CBS ended The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Kimmel, for his part, joked in August on The Sarah Silverman Podcast that he had gained Italian citizenship during Trump’s second term.
Jimmy Kimmel’s message shows that even people who often stand on opposite sides of politics can call for peace when tragedy strikes. Whether you agreed with Charlie Kirk or not, his death highlights the ongoing problem of gun violence in America. What do you think about Kimmel’s response and the wider conversation this tragedy has sparked? Share your thoughts in the comments.
