Kevin Feige Reveals How Many Marvel Movies Will Be Released Between ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’

Marvel Studios has spent this Comic-Con season proving it still knows how to keep fans guessing, even in a year already packed with major reveals. Between confirming Ryan Gosling as the new Ghost Rider and locking in David Jonsson for ‘Black Panther 3,’ the studio has given audiences plenty to dissect heading into its next era.

That next era is being built around a deliberately quieter release calendar, with Kevin Feige confirming that no Marvel films will hit theaters between ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’ According to Feige, that gap is intentional, meant to protect quality rather than spreading the studio’s resources across too many simultaneous projects.

Buried inside that explanation, though, was a much smaller detail that fans have since latched onto. While discussing Marvel’s plans for 2028, Feige noted that the studio has revealed two of its projects for that year so far in Ghost Rider and ‘Black Panther 3,’ a phrase that immediately raised the question of what else might be waiting to be announced, in an exclusive interview with Empire.

That kind of carefully worded aside is not new territory for Feige, who has built a reputation for dropping subtle hints buried within otherwise straightforward answers. Coming right after two major reveals already confirmed for that year, the implication that there could be more still unrevealed has fans combing through every recent rumor for clues about what that third project might be.

Speculation has understandably zeroed in on Marvel’s still unconfirmed ‘X-Men’ reboot, which director Jake Schreier is attached to and which Feige has confirmed will arrive sometime after ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’ Given that timing, a 2028 release window would line up neatly enough that fans have started wondering whether that project could be the very thing Feige was hinting at.

Adding fuel to that theory, insider reports have suggested Marvel may formally unveil the ‘X-Men’ cast at D23 next month, a move that would fit the pattern of major reveals being saved for large-scale fan conventions rather than smaller press releases. If that announcement does land with a concrete release date attached, it would neatly explain Feige’s coy phrasing about projects revealed so far.

Of course, Feige’s comment could just as easily refer to something entirely unexpected rather than a project already swirling in rumor mills. Marvel has surprised audiences before with reveals nobody saw coming, and given how tightly the studio has guarded details around its post Secret Wars slate, there’s no guarantee the mystery project is even one currently being discussed publicly.

What makes this tease particularly interesting is how it ties into Marvel’s broader messaging this year. By emphasizing a slower, more deliberate release schedule focused on quality, Feige seems to be signaling that whatever comes after ‘Secret Wars’ will be treated with the same careful planning that shaped the buildup to ‘Avengers Doomsday.’

For now, fans are left waiting for either an official confirmation or another accidental slip from Feige himself. Given how reliably Comic Con and D23 have delivered major Marvel news in recent years, it likely won’t be long before this mystery gets solved one way or another.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ arrives in theaters this December, followed by ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ next December, with Marvel’s full 2028 slate still being gradually revealed.
