Kevin Feige Reveals the Comic Blueprint Guiding the MCU’s Future After ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’

Marvel’s Multiverse Saga is barreling toward its conclusion, and fans have spent months speculating about what comes after the dust settles on ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.‘ With the film positioned as the culmination of years of interconnected storytelling, questions about whether Marvel Studios plans to hit the reset button entirely have only grown louder.

Kevin Feige has weighed in on exactly that question, and his answer offers one of the clearest hints yet about the studio’s long-term direction. Speaking with Josh Horowitz on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast alongside ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ executive producer Amy Pascal, Feige was asked directly what the MCU will look like once ‘Secret Wars’ wraps and whether that film amounts to a full reboot.

His answer was a firm no. Feige explained that he looks to the comics as he always does for storytelling guidance, and that after both Secret Wars comic storylines, but particularly Jonathan Hickman’s 2015 miniseries, there’s a solid road map for where Marvel can go next, as he told Horowitz on his podcast.

That specific reference carries real weight for longtime comic readers. Hickman’s original ‘Secret Wars’ ended with the Marvel multiverse being restored and rebuilt, opening the door to numerous new worlds and storylines ready to be explored, rather than closing things off entirely. Feige pointing directly to that comic suggests Marvel’s cinematic version could follow a similar structural pattern, expanding rather than erasing what’s come before.

One of the most talked-about elements of Hickman’s comic was its introduction of Miles Morales, who crossed over from the Ultimate universe into the mainstream Marvel universe as part of the story’s rebuilding. Miles has yet to make his live-action MCU debut, and Feige’s comments have fans speculating that a similar cross-universe approach could eventually bring him, or other multiversal variants of familiar characters, into the fold following ‘Secret Wars.’

The timing of these comments lines up with Marvel’s broader post-Endgame framing for its next chapter. Feige has separately described ‘Avengers: Endgame’ as a film about endings, while positioning ‘Secret Wars’ as fundamentally about beginnings, a distinction that supports his insistence that audiences shouldn’t expect a hard reboot once the film hits theaters in 2027.

That expansion angle also connects to Marvel’s already-confirmed plans to fold the X-Men and Fantastic Four into the shared universe. Feige has previously said fans will see X-Men characters appearing across Marvel’s next few films even before ‘Secret Wars’ arrives, positioning mutants as a central pillar of the studio’s future alongside the newly introduced First Family.

During the same conversation, Feige also reaffirmed that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ remains on track for its planned release and dismissed rumors that ‘Secret Wars’ might be split into two separate films, addressing two pieces of speculation that had been circulating heavily among fans in recent months.

With ‘Doomsday’ still months away and ‘Secret Wars’ following in 2027, Marvel appears to be leaning on one of its most celebrated comic runs to chart a course that keeps expanding the universe rather than starting over from scratch.
