Mackenzie Shirilla, who is currently serving time in prison in Ohio, has asked for help from Kim Kardashian in connection with her legal situation. The report says the request was made during a recorded phone call from the Cuyahoga County Corrections Center, which was later obtained and reviewed by PEOPLE.

In the call, Shirilla reportedly said she wanted Kim Kardashian to get involved in her case. She even suggested she wanted Kardashian to act as her lawyer. The request is not expected to go anywhere, according to sources close to Kardashian who spoke to TMZ.

The source explained that Kardashian’s legal advocacy work focuses on specific types of cases. She has been involved in efforts connected to criminal justice reform, especially cases where people may have been wrongly convicted or where there is strong support for a second chance after rehabilitation. The source said this situation does not match that focus.

The source told TMZ that “Kim advocates for criminal justice reform by supporting individuals she believes were wrongfully convicted, as well as people within the prison system who have demonstrated rehabilitation and deserve a fair second chance. This case does not fall within her focus.”

Mackenzie Shirilla became widely known after being convicted in 2023. She was found guilty of murder, aggravated vehicular homicide, and several other charges connected to a fatal crash in 2022 in Strongsville, Ohio. The crash killed two people: her boyfriend Dominic Russo and her friend Davion Flanagan.

Court findings stated that Shirilla was driving at a very high speed when the crash happened, and prosecutors argued that her actions were intentional. The case included evidence from the investigation and data from the vehicle, which was used in court to support the charges. A jury ultimately found her guilty.

The case has been heavily discussed online and in the media, especially after renewed attention following a Netflix documentary called “The Crash.” The program included interviews with Shirilla, her family, and people connected to the victims, which brought the case back into public conversation.

Since her conviction, Shirilla has remained in prison while continuing to draw public attention due to the severity of the crash and the debate around intent and responsibility in the case. Her recent request for Kim Kardashian’s involvement adds another layer of attention, but there is no indication that Kardashian plans to participate.

For now, according to TMZ’s reporting, the request has been firmly declined through her representatives, and the matter is not expected to move forward.
