‘Landman’ Star Demi Moore (63) Cinches Into a Sculpted Black Corset and Spills Out Into Lilac at the Academy Museum Gala
When it comes to red carpet fashion, Demi Moore has made a habit of never repeating herself. In the 37 years she has been attending the Oscars, each ensemble has looked drastically different from the last, from a DIY look she made herself in 1989 to an iridescent feathered Gucci gown at the 2026 ceremony. Her Academy Museum Gala look this year was no exception.
The sixth annual gala took place on October 17 in Los Angeles, and Moore had a double role as both a guest and a member of the host committee, alongside Teyana Taylor, Kirsten Dunst, Greta Lee, Adrien Brody and Kate Hudson. Charlize Theron, Colman Domingo and John Carpenter were honored, and Taylor Swift performed.
Moore’s answer to the evening was a dramatic two-tone gown. Demi Moore’s Academy Museum Gala look pairs a sculpted black strapless bodice with a voluminous lilac skirt that spills out into a sweeping train.

In the carpet clip, Moore stands against softly draped curtains. The black bodice fits like a corset, cut close to the waist with a notched, structured neckline, while the skirt gathers in billowing folds of lilac taffeta that catch the light in glossy ripples. The contrast between the severe top and the soft, almost liquid skirt is what makes the dress so memorable.
She kept the styling classic. Her dark hair was swept into an elegant updo with a few loose strands around her face, and she wore diamond drop earrings, sparkling bracelets and statement rings. The jewelry gave the monochrome top a bit of sparkle without competing with the skirt.

Lilac has an interesting history in Moore’s wardrobe. At the 1992 Oscars, she wore a lavender-gray silk georgette gown designed by Gianni Versace, with floral accents and matching opera gloves. It was a defining early red carpet moment, and the soft purple shade has stayed linked with her ever since.
This gala gown isn’t a replica, but the color feels like a quiet echo of that earlier moment. It shows how she can reuse a shade in a completely new silhouette.

She also has a track record at this event. At last year’s gala, she wore a plunging maroon gown with spaghetti straps, a fitted waist and a full, asymmetrical skirt, paired with statement diamond jewelry.
Compared with that smoldering oxblood look, this year’s dress is more architectural and playful. It trades a deep V-neckline for sculptural structure.

Her fashion run in 2026 has been bold. At the Oscars in March, where she was a presenter, she wore a custom Gucci gown covered in black and emerald-green feathers, which her stylist Brad Goreski described as a work of art. Earlier in the month, she wore a sculptural Schiaparelli gown with a voluminous train to the SAG Actor Awards.
She also wore a Thom Browne necktie-shaped gown at the 2025 Met Gala, and a crystal-embroidered Armani Privé gown at the 2025 Oscars, when she earned her first Academy Award nomination. Each look has been a deliberate change of pace.

Moore’s career has been just as busy. She earned a Golden Globe, a SAG Award and a Critics Choice Award for ‘The Substance,’ along with BAFTA and Oscar nominations. She also returned for the second season of ‘Landman’ on Paramount+, which has been renewed for a third season.
She will next appear in Boots Riley’s ‘I Love Boosters’ and is set to star in ‘Strange Arrivals’ from Roger Ross Williams alongside Colman Domingo, one of this year’s gala honorees. She also served on the 2026 Cannes Film Festival jury for feature films.
The carpet was packed with stars. Taylor Swift, Kate Hudson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kerry Washington, Charlize Theron and Teyana Taylor were among the guests, and Jessica Lange and Pamela Anderson also drew attention.
In a field full of sheer lace, feathers and sculpted couture, Moore’s gown stood out for its color blocking. It was glamorous without being overly complicated.
The dress works because it is a clean, confident idea. A black corset gives the top half a sharp, graphic edge, while the lilac skirt softens it with volume and movement. The color shift from dark to light also draws the eye down to the train, which keeps the whole look in motion.
It also fits Moore’s reputation for treating every carpet as a statement. She picks a concept and commits to it, and this one feels both elegant and a little theatrical.
