Few actors have built careers as varied as Mia Goth’s and Cailee Spaeny’s. Goth moved from Ti West’s horror trilogy to Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Frankenstein,’ while Spaeny went from ‘Pacific Rim Uprising’ to a Venice-winning turn in ‘Priscilla.’ Both are among the busiest young stars working today, so it was only fitting to see them on the same carpet.

The sixth annual Academy Museum Gala took place on October 17 in Los Angeles, honoring Charlize Theron, Colman Domingo and John Carpenter, with Taylor Swift set to perform. The evening is often called the “Met Gala of the West” and arrives right after Fashion Month, so guests tend to show up in runway-fresh designs.

Mia Goth and Cailee Spaeny’s Academy Museum Gala looks made for an eye-catching pairing. In a photo from the evening, the two sit side by side on a white sofa, Goth in a flowing black satin gown and Spaeny in a strapless, vivid pink satin dress.

Goth wore Dior, with Dior fine jewelry, in a 1970s-inspired black silhouette. The gown has a plunging V-neckline, short flutter sleeves and a belted waist, with the fabric falling in soft, liquid folds that catch the light. Her long honey-blond hair falls loose over her shoulders, and she carried a black handbag, which turned the dress into a modern take on the classic black gown.

Spaeny chose the opposite end of the color wheel. Her Valentino Spring/Summer 2027 gown is a saturated fuchsia satin, strapless and fitted through the bodice, with a dramatic train that bursts out in pleated layers of pink. She kept her dark hair simple and carried a small embroidered clutch, letting the color and the train steal the show.

The two looks balance each other beautifully. One is all shadow and softness, the other is all punch and volume, and together they read like a deliberate duo. The Zoe Report singled out Spaeny among the guests who leaned all the way into saturated shades, noting her gown’s dramatic train and punchy pink color, and described Goth’s as another take on the classic black dress.

On a night full of sculpted tailoring and sheer layers, the pair offered something simpler. Both relied on satin and color rather than heavy embellishment.

Goth’s fashion year has followed her career. At the 2026 Oscars, she attended for the first time, supporting ‘Frankenstein,’ which was nominated for Best Picture and earned nine nominations in total, in a soft, frilly Dior gown. She also wore a backless black halter gown with a matching sleeved shawl to the Golden Globes, where the film was up for five awards.

In the film, she plays both Elizabeth and Frankenstein’s mother, Claire. She is also in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ as Melantho and has joined Shawn Levy’s ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ alongside Ryan Gosling, which is set for release on May 28, 2027. She also remains attached to Marvel’s ‘Blade.’

Spaeny’s resume is equally full. She won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival and earned a Golden Globe nomination for playing Priscilla Presley in ‘Priscilla,’ and she followed it with roles in ‘Civil War,’ ‘Alien: Romulus’ and ‘Wake Up Dead Man.’

This year, she also took on a producing role on the second season of ‘Beef,’ which earned her a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. That mix of acting and producing shows how much her career has grown.

Spaeny has been tied to fashion for years. She closed the Miu Miu Spring 2024 show before ‘Priscilla’ came out, and she wore Miu Miu to her first Met Gala in 2024. Her gala look this year, a Valentino piece fresh from the Spring/Summer 2027 runway, shows how easily she moves between houses.

Goth, meanwhile, has kept her relationship with Dior steady across several 2026 events. The consistency gives both women a clear red carpet identity.

The guest list was packed. Taylor Swift, Kate Hudson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Kerry Washington, Janelle Monáe, Anna Kendrick and Brittany Snow all walked the carpet, along with Inde Navarrette and Curry Barker.

Among those bigger spectacles, the Goth-Spaeny pairing stood out for how effortless it felt. They looked relaxed, glamorous and entirely at home.

The beauty of the pairing is its simplicity. Black satin gives Goth an elegant, moody base, while Spaeny’s fuchsia gown brings energy and drama. Together, they create the kind of image that gets shared widely because it feels both polished and fun.

It is also a reminder of how much style can come from color alone. No elaborate embroidery was needed, just two strong choices and the confidence to wear them.

Which look do you prefer from Mia Goth and Cailee Spaeny at the 2026 Academy Museum Gala?
