Popular cosmetics brand Huda Beauty has cut ties with “Love Island USA” Season 7 contestant Huda Mustafa after a recent racism scandal, according to the company’s Instagram post on October 31.

The controversy began when a clip from a livestream featuring Mustafa and her partner, Louis Russell, who appeared on Netflix shows “Too Hot To Handle” and “Perfect Match,” went viral.

During the livestream, an unknown caller used a racial slur directed at Mustafa’s co-star, model Olandria Carthen. TMZ shared the video online, showing Mustafa and Russell reacting with surprise and nervous laughter before ending the call.

In response, Huda Beauty said, “We are truly disappointed by Huda Mustafa’s recent live and we take all forms of racism very seriously. While we don’t believe her actions reflect her character, we found them deeply upsetting.” The company added that members of its community were hurt by the incident and stated, “We have decided to end our partnership and remove any related content from our social platforms and in-store displays.”

Olandria Carthen also spoke out on Instagram, condemning the slur and addressing the livestream. “Words like that carry generations of pain, and pretending otherwise only keeps the cycle going,” she said.

Carthen emphasized that racism is never acceptable, whether intended as a joke or not. She announced she would make a personal donation to organizations that support the Black community, including the UNCF, NAACP, and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, and encouraged others to do the same.

This is not the first time Carthen has publicly criticized Mustafa. During the Season 7 reunion aired on August 25, Carthen called out Mustafa for not addressing racist comments made by her fans toward her and another castmate, Chelley Bissainthe.

Following the livestream incident, Mustafa issued a statement apologizing to Carthen. She wrote, “Olandria – it is now clear that this comment was targeted at you, and I apologize for my immediate reaction. My reaction in that moment came from being caught off guard, not from finding the word or situation funny. It was a nervous, uncomfortable reaction that I recognize was inappropriate.”

Mustafa continued, “I want to be clear that I do not condone or tolerate anyone who uses such language, and I strongly encourage the individual responsible to reflect deeply on their words and the harm they’ve caused.” She also announced that she would make a personal donation to the NAACP and urged others to contribute as well.
