Major ‘God of War’ Shake-Up: Kratos Actor Reportedly Being Replaced Due to On-Set Injury
Amazon’s upcoming God of War series has hit an unexpected problem during production. The live-action adaptation of the popular video game franchise is currently being filmed, but a reported injury involving the actor playing Kratos could force the production to slow down and potentially delay the show’s release.
According to TMZ, Ryan Hurst, who has been cast as Kratos in the Prime Video series, suffered a bicep tear while performing a stunt on set. The exact details of the scene have not been revealed, but the injury is reportedly serious enough to require surgery.
Because of the recovery time needed after the procedure, production may have to take a longer break than originally planned. TMZ reported that the team was hoping to return to filming around mid-August, but Hurst’s injury could push the schedule further back, possibly into 2027.
The God of War series does not currently have an official release date, although fans had been expecting it to arrive sometime in 2027. With this new setback, that timeline could now change depending on how long production remains paused.
Before the injury news, the series had been building excitement among fans. Ryan Hurst’s casting as Kratos received positive attention, with many viewers interested to see how he would bring the legendary warrior to life. The show also announced Ed Skrein as Baldur, one of Kratos’ major enemies from the games.
Casting has always been one of the biggest challenges for video game adaptations. Fans often have strong opinions about who should play their favorite characters, and getting those choices right can make a huge difference. The early reaction to the God of War cast suggested that Amazon was moving in a promising direction.
Are you worried about the God of War series after Ryan Hurst’s reported injury?
However, the production has already faced some criticism before this latest issue. One major controversy came after the release of the first official image from the series. Some fans complained that the image looked artificial, with several people comparing it to AI-generated artwork.
Even David Jaffe, the creator of the original God of War video game, commented on the image and criticized its appearance, saying it looked “terrible.” The response created a difficult moment for the series, although the production team has continued working on the adaptation since then.
The injury involving Hurst now creates another challenge for the show. While delays are common during large productions, especially ones involving heavy action scenes and physical performances, the timing could make things more difficult for Amazon as it prepares one of its biggest gaming adaptations yet.
The God of War series is expected to follow the story of Kratos, a former Greek warrior who now lives in the world of Norse mythology with his son Atreus. The games became famous for their emotional storytelling, brutal action, and complex characters, creating high expectations for the television version.
For now, fans will have to wait for more updates on Hurst’s recovery and the future filming schedule. Hopefully, the actor makes a full recovery and production can continue without major problems, allowing the series to deliver the adaptation that fans have been waiting for.
