Reports coming from Disney upfronts, as shared in entertainment coverage by outlets like Forbes, say that a planned crossover film between The Mandalorian and Ahsoka has now been quietly shelved.

The crossover project was expected to bring together characters from both series in a single big story set in the same timeline. However, according to the same reporting, the idea has now been moved to the backburner and is no longer moving forward for the time being.

Instead of the crossover movie, Disney is now focusing more on other projects in the Star Wars universe, including upcoming film plans centered on The Mandalorian story. The change suggests a shift in direction for how the studio wants to handle these connected stories.

The report also comes at a time when Ahsoka is facing a long wait between seasons. Disney has confirmed that the next season is now expected in “early 2027.” This means fans could be waiting around three and a half to four years between seasons, depending on production and post-production timing.

Filming for the new season wrapped in October 2025, but the long gap is reportedly due to heavy visual effects work and extended post-production. The show continues the story created by Dave Filoni and expands on characters from earlier animated series like “The Clone Wars” and “Rebels.”

The crossover film was seen by fans as a major potential event, especially because both shows exist in the same narrative timeline. It was expected to bring together key characters, including those played by Pedro Pascal and Rosario Dawson.

However, the latest update suggests that Disney has chosen to focus on a different path for now. The studio is instead moving forward with a separate The Mandalorian & Grogu project, which is now positioned as the main continuation of that storyline on the big screen.

According to the same reporting, one factor behind the shifting plans is that Dave Filoni has taken on larger responsibilities within Lucasfilm. He is now more involved in shaping the overall direction of the Star Wars franchise, which may be affecting how quickly individual projects move forward.

The report also notes that production challenges and past changes in casting have impacted scheduling. The passing of actor Ray Stevenson, who played a key role in Ahsoka, also led to recasting decisions that required adjustments in production planning.

Fan reaction online has been mixed. Some viewers have expressed frustration over long delays and canceled ideas, especially after the excitement surrounding a possible crossover event. Others believe Disney is trying to streamline its Star Wars content into fewer but larger projects.

For now, there is no official release plan for a crossover between The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, and the idea appears to have been paused indefinitely.
