New set footage from ‘Man of Tomorrow‘ is giving DC fans their most exciting behind-the-scenes look yet at the upcoming ‘Superman’ sequel, with DC Film News sharing video of David Corenswet’s Superman squaring off against Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor in his iconic green-and-purple Warsuit on location in Atlanta.

The footage captures what appears to be a major action sequence outside a downtown theater, and the practical scale of the suit on screen is exactly what the fanbase has been hoping to see.

The stunt sequence filmed in Atlanta’s downtown core shows the Warsuit being blasted backward through a massive hole in the side of a building, with Hoult’s stunt double wearing the practical armor for the impact shot.

Director James Gunn was also spotted on set showing David Corenswet how to deliver punches to Hoult’s character, suggesting the director is hands-on with the choreography of what may become the film’s central action set piece. According to eyewitnesses on the ground, the crowd in the scene can be heard chanting “kill him” as Superman pummels Lex.

The footage confirms a detail Gunn had first hinted at on social media when he posted a photo of the Warsuit earlier in production captioned simply “Fit check. Live from the set of Man of Tomorrow.” One notable detail quickly spotted by fans at the time was the presence of an ARGUS logo on the suit’s chest, suggesting the government organization is somehow connected to how Lex obtains his new armor in the sequel’s story.

This marks the first time any live-action Superman film has adapted the Lexosuit for the big screen, a moment comics fans have been anticipating for decades. The suit’s green-and-purple design stays faithful to its comics origins, and the combination of practical construction for close-up shots and stunt performance for the impact sequences mirrors the production approach Gunn used to ground the original ‘Superman’ in tactile reality.

In an interview on The Howard Stern Show, Gunn described ‘Man of Tomorrow’ as being as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie, saying he “relates to the character of Lex” and that he wanted to create something extraordinary from the dynamic between the two characters. He also revealed that the film involves Superman and Lex being forced to work together against the much bigger threat of Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger, whom Gunn has described as “what happens when intelligence loses all connection to humanity.”

The film takes place two years after the events of ‘Superman,’ with Corenswet confirmed to be wearing a different suit than the one seen in the first film. The returning cast includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Milly Alcock as Supergirl. ‘Man of Tomorrow’ is scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2027.
