Mark Ruffalo, best known to Marvel fans as the Hulk, is speaking out after ABC decided to suspend Jimmy Kimmel Live!

On Threads, Ruffalo shared a report that claimed Disney’s stock had fallen 7 percent after Kimmel’s show was pulled from the air. Along with the post, he wrote, “It’s going to go down a lot further if they cancel his show. Disney does not want to be the ones that broke America.”

That claim about Disney’s stock wasn’t accurate. Reports show that Disney’s shares dipped about 1 percent over two days, not 7 percent.

Some outlets put the company’s market loss closer to $1.5 billion, while others went as high as $4 billion. But analysts explained that big companies like Disney can see their market value swing by billions in a single trading session, and it’s misleading to blame the entire drop on Kimmel’s suspension.

Ruffalo previously also criticized the decision, saying the issue is about much more than money.

Speaking on a video call for the activist group No Kings, the actor described the suspension as a threat to free speech. “We saw Jimmy Kimmel’s show was canceled. We don’t know what the reasons are really, it’s very cloudy and murky,” Ruffalo said.

“I don’t understand what’s happening right now. My industry doesn’t understand what’s happening right now. But what they do understand is our freedom of speech is being attacked.”

Ruffalo went further, calling the cancellation government interference. “This cancellation is the United States government coming and taking your voice away from you. It is the United States government that is now suppressing the freedom of speech,” he said. He also warned that authoritarian regimes start by limiting expression until people are forced to live “the smallest, the most frightened, the most secretive lives.”

The controversy began after Kimmel’s monologue on September 18, where he criticized MAGA supporters for their reactions to the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Kimmel accused them of trying “to paint the suspect as anything other than one of them” and joked about Donald Trump’s response, saying the former president was “at the fourth stage of grief: construction.”

Trump ally Brendan Carr, a commissioner at the FCC, blasted Kimmel’s remarks and warned that ABC and Disney could face consequences unless the show was addressed. Soon after, Nexstar, which owns many ABC stations, pulled Jimmy Kimmel Live! from its lineup. Nexstar is currently seeking FCC approval for a $6.2 billion media deal, which put even more pressure on the situation.

ABC has confirmed the suspension, reportedly under orders from Disney executives. The decision has fueled heated debates across the country. Some say the move was necessary, while others argue it is a dangerous step toward government censorship.
