A few days ago news broke that Beau DeMayo, creator of ‘X-Men ’97’ was fired and his company email was deactivated without prior notice. The studio refused to comment on the reasons behind the firing and his representatives have stayed silent on the matter as well. DeMayo nuked his social media and didn’t comment as of yet on the reasons behind this shocking decision that took place a week before the premiere of the highly anticipated animated show.

Following the news, several industry insiders chimed in with their takes and rumors on what could have taken place to result in such a shocking twist in DeMayo’s career. Allegedly, DeMayo has been a nightmare to work with in general with a really difficult personality to handle. There are also some reports that there were problems with his overall work on ‘X-Men ’97’ and ‘Blade’ script, but admittedly those are the factors that didn’t influence the decision to fire the writer all that much. Now Marvel Animation Head, Winterbaum has given out a statement for Entertainment Weekly, regarding the situation, previously the studio and DeMayo’s representative have been silent.

I can’t talk about the details, but I can say that Beau had real respect and passion for these characters and wrote what I think are excellent scripts that really the rest of the team were able to draw inspiration from [to] build this amazing show that’s on screen.

Winterbaum also denied that DeMayo was fired stating:

I don’t. ‘We parted ways’ is the best way I could say.

‘X-Men ’97’ premieres with the first two episodes on March 20. The show was already renewed for a second season ahead of the first season’s debut. Have something to add? Let us know in the comments below!
