Marvel Fans Are Losing It Over Kevin Feige’s Response to Ghost Rider and Storm Casting Rumors
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has spent years teasing fans with characters who exist just outside the spotlight, and few have generated more persistent buzz than Ghost Rider and Storm. Both figures carry decades of comic book history, yet neither has found a definitive live action home within Kevin Feige’s ever expanding cinematic universe. That absence has only fueled speculation among fans eager to see fresh faces take on the roles.
Two names have dominated that conversation more than any others; Ryan Gosling and Cynthia Erivo. Both actors have publicly expressed interest in joining the MCU as Ghost Rider and Storm respectively, and their star power has only made the fan casting chatter louder with each passing year.
That speculation reached a new peak when podcast host Josh Horowitz sat down with Kevin Feige for an episode of Happy Sad Confused. Horowitz directly asked Feige why Gosling isn’t playing Ghost Rider and why Erivo isn’t playing Storm. Rather than shutting the idea down, Feige offered a response that immediately went viral, saying he never knows what the future may bring and calling both stars very good actors with great characters.
The timing of the comment matters. Both characters are rumored to factor into the upcoming crossover films ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ or ‘Secret Wars,’ given that both projects are expected to bring multiple universes crashing together. That kind of narrative scale would theoretically allow Marvel to introduce new versions of characters without erasing what came before.
Erivo’s potential path to Storm has also opened up in a notable way. Halle Berry, who played the character across the original X-Men trilogy, will not be reprising the role in Doomsday, leaving the door open for Erivo to eventually step into the part. Berry herself has previously said she would welcome the chance to return to Marvel in some form, even if not as Storm specifically.
Gosling’s connection to Ghost Rider has an even longer paper trail. The actor first told Josh Horowitz back in 2022 that Ghost Rider was the one superhero role he wanted, a comment that reportedly reached Feige directly. Ghost Rider previously appeared on the big screen through Nicolas Cage in 2007 and its 2012 sequel Spirit of Vengeance, but the character has been dormant on film since Marvel Studios regained the rights.
Neither casting has been confirmed by Marvel Studios, and Feige’s answer was carefully vague by design. Still, the fact that he didn’t dismiss either possibility has been enough to send fan communities into overdrive, parsing every word for hints about what’s coming next in the studio’s multiverse saga.
Whether or not Gosling ever rides a flaming motorcycle or Erivo commands the skies as Storm, the reaction to this single quote proves just how much goodwill both actors already have with Marvel’s audience.
