Marvel’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Drama: Fans Can’t Tell What’s Real Anymore as AI Leaks Take Over the Internet
The countdown to one of Marvel’s most ambitious crossovers has fans glued to their phones, refreshing feeds for any scrap of footage that might confirm what ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ has in store. With a cast that spans the Avengers, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four, the appetite for any glimpse behind the curtain has reached a fever pitch.
That hunger has created the perfect environment for confusion to thrive. Marvel Studios has kept its cards close to the chest, and the only full trailer for the film has reportedly been locked behind CinemaCon since April, leaving a vacuum that fans and opportunists alike have rushed to fill.
Into that vacuum came a flood of supposed leaks, including pixelated clips showing heroes battling robotic enemies and surprise crossover appearances. According to reports, multiple videos and images claiming to show ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ footage have circulated widely, depicting Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom alongside scenes of heroes fighting Sentinels and other fan favorites making unexpected appearances.
The trouble is that separating the genuine from the fabricated has become nearly impossible. One viral video racked up roughly seven million views before being exposed as an AI-generated fake, complete with subtle giveaways like a Thor who looked more like Heath Ledger and a Scarlet Witch resembling Taylor Swift. Even with those tells, the clip was convincing enough on a quick scroll to fool plenty of viewers.
Industry voices have weighed in on the trend, with commentators pointing to a recurring pattern. Observers have noted that some of these supposed leaks show suspiciously sharp detail in some frames and blurriness in others, despite claiming to be shot at the same time, which is often a telltale sign of AI manipulation. The phenomenon is not unique to Marvel either, with similar fake set videos previously circulating for other major franchises before being quickly debunked.
Adding another layer to the confusion is Marvel’s own silence. When a separate clip showing Doctor Doom activating a force of Sentinels alongside Thor and Steve Rogers began spreading, fans noticed something unusual. Nearly a full day after the footage spread across social media, Marvel Studios had not issued a single DMCA takedown, and for many fans that silence became the strongest argument yet that the clip might be fake or AI generated.
The reasoning behind that theory makes sense on the surface. When genuine Marvel footage has leaked in the past, including December teasers and a bootlegged ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ trailer, Disney’s legal team has typically moved to scrub it from the internet almost immediately.
But not everyone is convinced the silence proves anything. Some have pointed out that several outlets reviewing the Sentinel clip believed it looked authentic rather than AI generated, and a well known industry insider described related leaked images of Wolverine, Spider-Man, and Deadpool as completely real. That same footage also reportedly lines up with previously leaked set photos and descriptions from the CinemaCon trailer, which lends it a bit more credibility in the eyes of skeptics.
Beyond the footage itself, fans have also been swapping detailed plot breakdowns claiming to reveal the film’s storyline. Per circulating descriptions, the alleged plot ties Doctor Doom’s origin to a multiversal Incursion event that left him disfigured and motivated him to rebuild reality in his own image. Whether any of that holds up once the film actually arrives remains to be seen.
While the leak saga plays out online, Marvel’s release calendar continues to take shape. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is set to swing into theaters on July 31, with the story finding Peter Parker fighting crime in a world that no longer remembers who he is. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ follows several months later on December 18, bringing together heroes from across the MCU, the X-Men franchise, and the Fantastic Four for what promises to be a massive ensemble showdown.
With both films generating enormous buzz and an endless cycle of leaks feeding more leaks, the line between genuine sneak peeks and AI fabrications has rarely been blurrier. What do you think is really going on with these supposed leaks? Share your theories in the comments.
