‘Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’: Insomniac Games’ Writer Already Teases Potential Threequel
It’s been almost two years since the latest Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland premiered in theaters, and although we know the fourth movie is in development and set to come out eventually, the fans of the Web-Crawler aren’t staying on dry land while waiting for another live-action adventure. Last June, we watched ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,’ a sequel to 2018’s animated hit ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.’ Just like its predecessor, the sequel received universal acclaim, and many critics are noting it as the best candidate for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
Following the release of ‘Across the Spider-Verse,’ Spider-Man fans are now looking forward to the upcoming ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man 2,’ a video game sequel to 2018’s ‘Spider-Man’ and its 2020 spin-off ‘Spider-Man: Milles Morales.’ For the first time ever, the sequel will assemble two Spider-Men as playable characters as they prepare to defend New York City against a new set of villains, including Venom and Kraven the Hunter. ‘Spider-Man 2’ is one of the most anticipated games of the year, and even though we’re going to play in less than a month, some fans might already wonder if there will be another sequel.
The ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’ writer plays coy about a potential threequel!
The success of 2018’s ‘Spider-Man,’ which became the best-selling PS4 game of all time, allowed Insomniac Games to create a whole franchise. Spider-Man: Miles Morales was one of the launching titles for the PS5 back in 2020, and apart from the upcoming ‘Spider-Man 2,’ Insomniac is also developing ‘Marvel’s Wolverine,’ a spin-off game that will also be set in the same shared universe.
Although the company is currently busy with ‘Wolverine,’ the hype that follows ‘Spider-Man 2’ is already begging the question: “Will there be Marvel’s Spider-Man 3?” Here’s what Benjamin Arfmann, Insomniac Games’ writer, had to say about that.
“I mean, I would love to be able to talk about that. We love this game. [We] are so excited about this game. I’m really hoping that fans love it in the same way that we do. And we’re going to be so lucky to get to tell more stories. [But], for right now, I think what we can talk about is the game that comes out October 20.”

Although it’s been three years since the release of PS5, Sony hopes that ‘Spider-Man 2’ can rapidly increase sales even further. Developing acclaimed PlayStation exclusives such as ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘Ratchet & Clank’ earned Insomniac a very good reputation in the gaming world. Therefore, each of their upcoming titles will surely be anticipated, starting with ‘Wolverine,’ and then maybe the potential ‘Spider-Man 3’, or whatever they’re planning to develop next. Looking at the success of the franchise, we wouldn’t be surprised if Miles Morales’ spin-off would also get his own sequel.
