‘Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’: Yuri Lowenthal Hopes to Voice the Wall-Crawler Forever

It’s not unusual for an actor to land a role in a superhero project that eventually launches them into stardom. However, it’s a different pair of shoes for actors specializing only in voice acting. Voice actors are committed to portraying their roles without revealing their faces, and despite their enormous talent, it can be pretty hard for a voice actor to reach the level of fame of Hollywood’s most prominent stars.

However, some actors gained their celebrity status precisely through voice roles. The best example is probably Kevin Conroy, the legendary Batman voice actor who portrayed the character in DC Animated Universe and Rocksteady’s ‘Batman: Arkham’ trilogy. Another example is Troy Baker, who is known for portraying numerous video game characters, including Batman and Joker. After these two, the best example that crosses our mind is Yuri Lowenthal, who is best known for portraying Peter-Parker/Spider-Man in Insomniac Games’ ‘Spider-Man’ franchise.

‘Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’ star shares his hopes for portraying the Web-Slinger in the future.

Yuri Lowenthal is a voice actor who worked on countless cartoons, anime, and video games. On IMDb, the 52-year-old actor has almost 800 credited projects as an actor. That’s a lot of projects. However, he gained further recognition by voicing Peter Parker in 2018’s ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man,’ an acclaimed video game that became the best-selling PS4 game of all time, with over 20 million sold copies.

Lowenthal reprised the role in 2020’s spin-off ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales’ and this year’s ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,’ in which his Spidey made a cameo appearance. In less than a month, we’ll hear him as the Web-Crawler again in the highly anticipated ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man 2,’ one of the year’s most anticipated video games.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, Lowenthal expressed his love for the Spider-Man role and revealed that he would love to continue playing it.

“I’ll be honest, I’m just excited that at my age, they still let me play Spider-Man or that they ever let me play Spider-Man in the first place. I’ll do it to my dying breath if they’ll let me because I love it so much. I love working with [Insomniac] so much, and I love what they do.

And I just got to say, I love playing Spider-Man. It is the best. I’ll do it forever if they ask me to, but I also understand if, at some point, they’re like, ‘You know what, we’re going to have to switch gears.’ And I’d be like, ‘You know what? I had a good run.’ Not everyone can say that they do what I get to do. Even if it ended today, I’d be like, ‘I did that.’ But I also hope it goes on forever.”

Before becoming Insomiac’s Spider-Man, Lowenthal was known for portraying The Prince in Ubisoft’s ‘Prince of Persia,’ Lorath Nahr in ‘Diablo III,’ and Matt Miller in ‘Saints Row: The Third’ and ‘Saints Row IV.’ He also voices Smoke in this year’s ‘Mortal Kombat 1.’ He also voiced several supporting characters, including Curt Connors/Lizard in 2017’s ‘Spider-Man’ animated series.

‘Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’ is set to be released exclusively for PS5 on October 20, 2023.
