Chris Pratt, the actor known for playing Star-Lord in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, has faced online criticism after posting a tribute to Charlie Kirk, a close associate of President Donald Trump.

Pratt, 46, shared his message on X on October 10, writing, “I am praying for Charlie and his wife, young children, and our country. We need God’s grace. God, help us.”

The post drew sharp reactions from some users, who questioned why Pratt did not mention other tragedies, including recent school shootings.

Comments included, “Did you also pray for the families of the Denver school shooting victims?” and “Why didn’t you say anything about the children shot dead in schools today?” Some critics even called for his removal from Marvel projects.

Pratt has often been labeled a Trump supporter, though he has never officially endorsed the president.

Observers point to his attendance at a far-right church and his absence from a 2020 fundraising event for Democratic candidate Joe Biden as reasons for this perception. Despite the backlash, many Americans, regardless of political views, expressed sympathy for Pratt’s tribute, and numerous celebrities shared condolences online.

The incident comes amid a wider climate of public scrutiny over online posts related to politically sensitive events.

For example, Drew Harrison, a senior character artist at Sucker Punch Productions, lost her job after making controversial comments on social media about the same incident. Similarly, DC’s Red Hood limited series was canceled following offensive online remarks by Gretchen Felker Martin. A website called Charlie’s Murderers also appeared in response to violent jokes and memes about Kirk circulating online.

This situation highlights how social media can quickly turn tributes and personal expressions into public controversy. Pratt’s post shows the tension between mourning a public figure and facing criticism for perceived selective empathy.

At the same time, other individuals have faced severe professional consequences for their posts, showing the high stakes of public commentary today. What do you think? Should online posts like this be met with backlash or consequences? Share your thoughts in the comments.
