Jaafar Jackson is moving on to his next major acting role after gaining worldwide attention for playing his famous uncle in the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic ‘Michael’. The actor has now joined Amazon MGM Studios and Miramax’s action thriller ‘Supermax‘, adding another major project to his growing Hollywood career.

According to Deadline, Jackson will appear alongside previously announced stars Will Smith and AnnaSophia Robb. Details about his character are being kept secret for now, but the report says his role will be important to the movie’s main story.

‘Supermax’ follows 2 FBI agents who are sent to investigate a murder that seems impossible to solve. The case takes place inside a maximum-security prison, where the agents must uncover the truth behind a crime that should have been impossible to commit.

The film is being directed by David Gordon Green, who is known for projects including ‘Halloween’ and ‘The Exorcist: Believer’. The screenplay comes from David Weil and David J. Rosen, with the story expected to mix action, mystery and thriller elements.

Will Smith and AnnaSophia Robb play the FBI agents at the center of the investigation. Jackson’s character has not been revealed yet, but his involvement is expected to connect closely with the mystery surrounding the prison case.

‘Supermax’ is being produced by Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman of The Picture Company, along with Smith and Adam Fishbach for Westbrook Studios. Weil and Rosen will also serve as executive producers, while Natalie Laine Williams joins as an associate producer.

The production also includes executives from Miramax and Westbrook Studios. Miramax CEO Jonathan Glickman, President of Film Alexandra Loewy, COO Thom Zadra and SVP Spencer Ela are among the executive producers attached to the project, alongside James Lassiter and Miguel Melendez.

The announcement comes after Jackson’s high-profile role in ‘Michael’, where he portrays his late uncle Michael Jackson. The biopic has drawn major attention because of its subject matter and Jackson’s personal connection to the legendary performer.

Playing Michael Jackson was a major challenge for Jaafar, who had the difficult task of bringing one of the world’s most famous entertainers to life on screen. His performance helped put him on Hollywood’s radar and opened the door to more acting opportunities.

Following the success of ‘Michael’, Jackson has quickly become one of the most talked-about new names in the industry. His move into ‘Supermax’ shows that he is looking to build a career beyond music and into major film roles.

Amazon MGM Studios is preparing to release the movie globally through Prime Video, with plans for the thriller to reach audiences in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. The project is expected to continue expanding the studio’s lineup of original films.

With Will Smith leading the cast and David Gordon Green behind the camera, ‘Supermax’ is shaping up to be a major thriller for Amazon MGM. Jackson’s involvement adds another layer of interest as audiences wait to discover what role he will play in the mysterious prison story.
