Laura Harrier has a long-running relationship with the little black dress. Earlier this year, she attended YSL Beauty’s pre-Coachella party in Indio, California, in a slinky black number with lace-up cutouts and a thigh-high slit. She finished the look with high-heeled flip-flops and rectangular sunglasses.

It is a pattern. Harrier is also a regular on best-dressed lists, and her 2026 Met Gala look was a draped sheer brown gown by Di Petsa for ShopMy. She later changed into a black sheer dress with thin straps and a high slit for the after-party.

Now she is back in black. On October 1, Harrier shared a collection of images on Instagram with a short caption “@ysl @anthonyvaccarello the most brilliant show 🖤 it was such an honor to witness thank you thank you”

In the first shot, she poses against warm, dark wood paneling in an off-the-shoulder black dress with tiered ruffles at the neckline, sleeves and hem. Her long, dark hair falls straight down her back as she glances over her shoulder at the camera.

The second photo moves to a bright marble staircase. Harrier sits with her legs crossed in the same dress, wearing small black sunglasses with one hand raised to her temple. She completes the monochrome look with sheer black tights and pointed black slingback heels with an ankle strap.

The contrast between the two settings is the point. One is moody and low-lit, the other airy and graphic, but the black dress ties them together. It is a styling approach she has leaned on before, and she has previously explained that living in New York City shaped her sense of style.

The photos arrive during a packed stretch for Harrier. She appears as Suzanne de Passe in ‘Michael’, the biopic chronicling the origin story of the King of Pop, which was set for release on April 24. She also fronted S Magazine’s spring cover, where she said she leans toward characters she hasn’t explored before and types of women she hasn’t gotten to play.

More work is on the way. Coveteur noted that her jam-packed schedule includes four forthcoming films, and IMDb lists ‘The Technique’, ‘Strobe’ and ‘Lords of War’ as being in post-production. That slate suggests a deliberate move toward varied roles.

She has also been busy off screen. Harrier fronted a campaign and short film for STAUD and Amex Gold, and she teamed up with designer Tiffany Howell on a Crate & Barrel collection. The line references their shared love of vintage cinema and glamorous fashion and grew out of a friendship that began when they worked on her house together.

Her path to this point has been unconventional. Harrier moved to New York City at 18 to attend NYU, where she began modeling professionally, and she later took acting classes at the William Esper Studio on a whim. In 2017, she appeared as Liz in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’, which brought her to the Hollywood scene.

She followed that with Spike Lee’s ‘BlacKkKlansman’, which starred John David Washington and Adam Driver and earned six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. That mix of modeling polish and acting credits helps explain why her style moments tend to get as much attention as her film roles.

Harrier’s latest photos are a reminder of why. Between a major biopic, several films still to come and a steady run of red-carpet looks, she has become hard to ignore in both lanes.
