Netflix Drops First Trailer for ‘Man on Fire’ Starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II — Release Date Revealed
Netflix has released the first trailer for its upcoming series Man on Fire, giving viewers a clear look at the tone and story ahead of its debut. The show is set to arrive on April 30 and will run for seven episodes.
The series stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the role of John Creasy, a former Special Forces operative whose life has been heavily affected by PTSD. According to Netflix’s trailer and official materials shared through Tudum, Creasy is now living in isolation, working low-key warehouse jobs and keeping distance from other people.
In the trailer, Creasy describes his current state in simple terms, saying, “I’m pretty much a solo act at this point.” He is later challenged by Paul Rayburn, played by Bobby Cannavale, who responds, “Yeah, how’s that working out for you?”
Abdul-Mateen II has explained that his character is someone who can function in high-pressure situations but struggles when it comes to emotional openness. That internal struggle is a major focus of the story.
The plot changes when Rayburn brings Creasy back into action. He is taken to Brazil after a violent skyscraper bombing changes everything. In the aftermath, Creasy is assigned to protect Poe, played by Billie Boullet, who is Rayburn’s daughter and a witness to the attack.
What begins as a protection job slowly turns into a deeper connection between the two characters. In the trailer, Creasy tells Poe, “I see a lot of myself in you.” This moment points to a key theme in the series, where both characters begin to change through their relationship with each other.
The show also features a strong action focus. The trailer shows sequences involving a prison escape, close combat fights, and large-scale stunts. One of the most intense moments includes Creasy jumping from a moving vehicle onto a plane, a stunt that reportedly took weeks of preparation, according to Tudum.
Man on Fire is based on A.J. Quinnell’s work and reimagines the story with a stronger focus on character development and emotional depth, while still keeping its action-heavy style.
This looks like a solid mix of emotional storytelling and action, especially with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the lead. If the balance works well, it could stand out from other action series on Netflix.
