Netflix Hit With 95% Audience Score Scores Early Season 3 Renewal
Netflix just gave One Piece fans something to cheer about. At this year’s One Piece Day celebration in Tokyo, the streamer revealed that the live-action pirate adventure is getting a third season, and they’re not even waiting for season 2 to premiere before starting work on it.
Production for season 3 will kick off later this year in Cape Town, South Africa. Ian Stokes will join Joe Tracz as co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer for the upcoming season.
Season 2 is set to arrive in 2026, but Netflix has already shared a first look. The show is based on Eiichiro Oda’s famous manga and is made in partnership with Shueisha, produced by Tomorrow Studios and Netflix.
It tells the story of Monkey D. Luffy, played by Iñaki Godoy, a young pirate with big dreams. Luffy wants to become the King of the Pirates by finding the legendary treasure left behind by Gold Roger, played by Michael Dorman.

Luffy’s crew, the Straw Hats, sail with him on this journey. There’s swordsman Roronoa Zoro, played by Mackenyu, cartographer Nami, played by Emily Rudd, storyteller Usopp, played by Jacob Romero, and chef Sanji, played by Taz Skylar. Together, they face dangerous seas, strange lands, and powerful enemies.
Netflix says season 2 will bring “fiercer adversaries and the most perilous quests yet.” The official description adds, “Luffy and the Straw Hats set sail for the extraordinary Grand Line — a legendary stretch of sea where danger and wonder await at every turn. As they journey through this unpredictable realm in search of the world’s greatest treasure, they’ll encounter bizarre islands and a host of formidable new enemies.”
For season 2, Joe Tracz worked alongside Matt Owens as co-showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Owens won’t be leading season 3, as Stokes steps in to take his place. Executive producers for the show also include Eiichiro Oda, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements from Tomorrow Studios, Tetsu Fujimura, Chris Symes, Christoph Schrewe, and Steven Maeda.
The live-action series has been a big part of Netflix’s push into epic fantasy and adventure. With its mix of action, humor, and heart, it has drawn in both long-time manga fans and newcomers. Season 3’s early renewal shows the streamer’s confidence in the series and its growing audience.
While Luffy’s search for the One Piece will take him deeper into dangerous waters, fans now know that his adventures won’t be ending anytime soon. Or as Netflix puts it, the Straw Hats’ next voyages are already set, long before the second season even hits our screens.
