Netflix’s Controversial Remake of Action Classic Explodes With Surprise Streaming Success
A new version of Man on Fire is making noise on Netflix, even though not everyone is happy about it.
The series is based on the well-known book and film story that originally starred Denzel Washington in one of his most famous roles. That version is still widely considered a classic, so expectations were already very high going into this reboot.
Despite that, the new show has managed to climb to number 1 on Netflix’s global Top 10 list.

The story in this version follows a former Special Forces soldier named John Creasy, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. He is pulled into a dangerous situation after a terrorist attack destroys a family, leaving him responsible for protecting a teenage girl caught in the aftermath. The action is set mostly in Rio de Janeiro.
The reception, however, has been mixed. Critics have given it around a 55% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while general viewers have responded more positively, giving it a 76% audience score.
Not everyone agrees with the changes made from the original story. Some viewers online have pointed out that the show feels very different from both the original film and the source material.
Critics have also been divided on the quality. Some feel the cast is strong but wasted on a weaker script.
Even with all the criticism, the series is still performing well in terms of views. It seems a lot of people are watching out of curiosity, even if the response is not fully positive.
The big question now is whether the show can keep its momentum or if interest will fade once viewers finish the first episodes. For now, it is clearly one of Netflix’s most talked-about releases.
