The first clear promotional image of Tombstone in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has surfaced, and it is turning heads for more than one reason. The image gives fans their best look yet at Marvin Jones III’s live-action portrayal of Lonnie Lincoln, and what it confirms about the character’s role in the film is already sending theorists into overdrive.

The image comes from official promotional art that emerged via All Posters ahead of the film’s release, showcasing the villain in a design that captures a deliberate mix of elegance and brutality, presenting Tombstone as a no-nonsense crime boss who commands respect through sheer presence rather than spectacle.

Jones III’s casting marks the first time in MCU history that a villain actor has reprised a role in live-action after originally voicing the character in animation. Jones brought Tombstone to life in Sony’s animated ‘Spider-Verse’ franchise before landing the live-action role, making his performance in ‘Brand New Day’ a historic first for the shared universe.

The character also achieves a rare cross-platform milestone in the current calendar year, appearing in three separate projects, including ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ Season 2 on Disney+ and ‘Spider-Noir’ on Prime Video alongside his live-action debut in ‘Brand New Day,’ making it the most prolific year for the character across any medium.

Tombstone’s function within the film is still being pieced together by analysts, but the emerging consensus points toward him operating as an orchestrator rather than a frontline combatant.

The current read from those tracking the marketing is that Tombstone is the actual power behind everything, with Scorpion acting as the more visible personal threat against Peter Parker and Damage Control’s William Metzger running a parallel government-level antagonist track involving the X-Men subplot. Reports describe Tombstone as a Thanos-level big bad for the full trilogy, and his near-total absence from official marketing is widely believed to be a deliberate choice by Marvel to preserve the impact of his entrance.

The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker, with a cast that includes Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal as the Punisher, Sadie Sink, Michael Mando as Scorpion, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, and Tramell Tillman as Bill Metzger, alongside Marvin Jones III’s Tombstone. Marvin Jones III was formally confirmed for the role by Deadline in September 2025, and the film is set to open in theaters on July 31.

For a character who has been a fixture of Spider-Man comics and animation for decades, the live-action debut could not be arriving at a more loaded moment. With Peter Parker operating alone in a city that has completely forgotten him and facing more simultaneous threats than any previous entry in the franchise, Tombstone’s shadow hanging over the entire operation gives ‘Brand New Day’ a sense of long-game menace that the solo series has not had since the Vulture in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming.’
