New ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ BTS Footage Shows Peter Parker Battling Scorpion
Sony has released new behind-the-scenes footage from Spider-Man: Brand New Day, giving fans a fresh look at one of the movie’s biggest action scenes that was not included in the official trailers.
The new footage shows Tom Holland’s Peter Parker facing off against Scorpion, played by Michael Mando. The video offers a closer look at the fight while also highlighting Holland performing his own stunts. During the sequence, Scorpion strikes Spider-Man with his mechanical tail, sending the hero flying through the air.
The behind-the-scenes feature also reveals that this fight is more than just an action scene. It is one of several moments in the movie that recreates classic Spider-Man comic book covers from different eras.
Tom Holland explains that the filmmakers wanted to honor Spider-Man’s comic book history throughout the movie. He says the upcoming sequel includes several visual tributes inspired by iconic covers that longtime fans will recognize.
The Scorpion battle is based on the cover of Spider-Man Adventures #2, published in 1995. The comic tells the story of Mac Gargan, better known as Scorpion, confronting Spider-Man after being transformed into the dangerous villain. During that battle, Scorpion overpowers Spider-Man and nearly unmasks him before the effects of his transformation force him to retreat.
The behind-the-scenes video also confirms that this is not the only comic cover recreated in the film. Fans can also spot references to Amazing Fantasy #15, which introduced Spider-Man for the first time, along with Amazing Spider-Man #345 and Amazing Spider-Man #134. These visual recreations appear to be part of the movie’s effort to celebrate the character’s long comic book history.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues Peter Parker’s story after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The sequel is set four years later, following the spell that erased Peter’s identity from everyone’s memory. As a result, Peter is starting over without the people closest to him remembering who he is.
Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker alongside Zendaya as Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds. The cast also includes Michael Mando returning as Scorpion, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, Krondon as Tombstone, and Sadie Sink in a role that has not yet been revealed.
The newly released footage gives fans another look at the scale of the action while also showing the attention the filmmakers have paid to Spider-Man’s comic book legacy. Rather than simply adapting familiar characters, the team appears to have recreated several memorable comic book images as part of the storytelling.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to arrive in theaters on July 31, with tickets already on sale.
