‘Off Campus’ Star Ella Bright Goes Gothic in a Corset Gown at the VMAs While ‘Off Campus’ Fans Get a Reunion

Breakout stars usually get their first taste of red carpet attention slowly. For Ella Bright, the ride has been much faster. Ella Bright at the VMAs was one of the night’s biggest fashion talking points for fans of the hit series that made her a star.

The show behind that rise is ‘Off Campus,’ Prime Video’s hockey romance series that premiered in May. It reached 36 million viewers worldwide over its first 12 days, and it has made stars out of most of its leads. Bright plays music student Hannah Wells opposite Belmont Cameli’s Garrett Graham.

At the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, September 27, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, Bright arrived first on the blue carpet. She wore a black corset dress with a plunging neckline, a choker, and black sunglasses. Just Jared identified the look as Ermanno Scervino.

Other reports described it as a silk corseted gown, paired with mocha brown hair, deep dusty rose lipstick, and black cat-eye sunglasses. The overall effect was gothic chic, and one outlet said it was on theme for the fall 2026 season. Bright’s darker hair color was itself part of the statement.

Bright didn’t just walk once. She walked the carpet solo early, then doubled back to pose with Cameli after he arrived later. He wore two slightly different shades of denim with square rimless glasses and black loafers, a Y2K-inspired look with a Ferragamo FW25 Ready-to-Wear piece, per Just Jared.

The contrast worked. Her dark, corseted look sat next to his casual denim-on-denim outfit, and they even coordinated their sunglasses. It made for a striking visual split that fans quickly noticed.

The pairing carried extra weight. Fans had spent weeks speculating online, from whether the on-screen love interests were secretly dating to whether they were feuding. Earlier this month, the two shared a video for fans amid speculation about a feud.

Walking the carpet together, the costars looked plenty united. Yahoo News joked that the pair were just two totally platonic costars looking fly and putting the rumors to rest. Whatever fans believe, the appearance was a friendly one.

The costars also had a job to do. Bright and Cameli announced rising pop singer Sienna Spiro’s performance during the telecast. The crowd went wild the moment they came out, and Bright had to briefly pause because the cheering was so loud.

They joined a presenter lineup that included Alex Warren, Charli xcx, Ciara Miller, Isabel May, Jeff Probst, Rachel Dratch, Teyana Taylor, Troye Sivan, and Tyla. Hosted by Snoop Dogg, the show marked the ceremony’s return to Los Angeles. For a pair of TV actors, being handed a moment on that stage says a lot about how fast their profile has grown.

The timing was convenient. ‘Off Campus’ reportedly wrapped filming on season 2 about a week before the ceremony, giving Bright a rare break. Before production begins on her new coming-of-age movie ‘Narcs,’ the VMAs made a perfect stop.

Season 2 centers on the love story of Alli and Dean, and the show is expected to return in 2027 with some changes to the cast, including one exit and some new faces. Fans will have to wait a while for answers. Until then, red carpet appearances like this one keep the momentum going.

Fashion coverage was warm. Rolling Stone called the pair’s looks classic, describing Bright’s outfit as a form-fitting black gown. Other outlets said it was expected to serve as inspiration as the colder months approach.

The choice also fit the carpet’s mood. Many stars leaned into skin-baring and dramatic looks, and a polished corset gown stood out for its restraint. It looked like the work of a rising star who knows exactly how to make a first impression.
