A new AI-powered film titled Bitcoin is getting attention for its unusual cast, its use of artificial intelligence, and its bold take on real-world tech and political figures. The project is directed by Doug Liman and is currently in post-production, with sales being handled at the Cannes market by 193, according to film industry reporting.

The movie stars Casey Affleck, Pete Davidson, Gal Gadot, and Isla Fisher in leading roles. It follows a fictional story centered on a man who claims he created Bitcoin, a claim that puts him in danger and triggers a global chase involving powerful figures from the worlds of tech, politics, and finance.

What makes the film stand out is that it also includes AI-enhanced portrayals of real public figures. Versions of Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Jack Dorsey, Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong Un, Eric Trump, and even a nod to Elon Musk appear in the story.

According to production details reported by entertainment sources, these characters were initially played by actors on set and later modified using AI tools to better resemble the real individuals. The production reportedly secured approvals for these AI alterations from the performers involved.

The story uses these figures as supporting characters rather than main leads, but they play a key role in building the film’s satirical world. Mark Zuckerberg’s character is said to have the most dialogue among the public figures. Eric Trump is shown promoting “Trump coin” and appears in scenes involving crypto-related schemes, while other global leaders and tech billionaires are used to reflect the power struggles around digital currency and financial control.

According to production notes, the film blends satire with high-stakes drama. One of the central ideas is a global race over the truth behind Bitcoin’s origin, based loosely on the real-world controversy surrounding Craig Wright, a computer scientist who has claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto. Those claims have been widely disputed, and a British High Court ruling in 2024 rejected his assertion that he created Bitcoin.

The film’s script was written by Nick Schenk, known for Gran Torino, and it is produced by Ryan Kavanaugh and Lawrence Grey. Liman is also using his own AI-based filmmaking approach called PECAN, combined with Kavanaugh’s ACME AI technology. The production also used a “markerless performative capture stage” instead of traditional location shooting, allowing the entire film to be completed in about 20 days.

Liman has said in production discussions that the use of AI technology helps reduce costs significantly. The budget is reported to be around $70 million, which is much lower than typical large-scale Hollywood productions that can reach $200–300 million.

Pete Davidson plays blockchain investor Calvin Ayre, while Gal Gadot and Casey Affleck also take on central roles in the narrative. The film is positioned as a fast-paced satire that looks at how money, influence, and digital power collide in the modern world.

One producer involved in the project described it as “an exciting and gripping story, set in the mysterious and high-stakes real world of crypto.” That quote reflects the film’s attempt to mix real-world themes with fictional storytelling.

While the movie is still in post-production, it has already sparked discussion due to its use of AI-generated likenesses of real-world figures and its unconventional production style. With its mix of satire, technology, and controversial personalities, Bitcoin is shaping up to be one of the more unusual releases linked to AI filmmaking so far.
