Robert Downey Junior Allegedly Agreed to Return to the MCU

Following ‘Avengers: Endgame’ we knew that the MCU’s prime Avengers cast would have to change. Black Widow sacrificed herself at Vormir, and RDJ’s Iron Man did the same by activating the Infinity Gauntlet and snapping away Thanos and the threat of his army forever.

It seemed like that chapter of the MCU was closed forever, and some new faces would emerge to take over the roles that were, at the time, left vacant. We’ve previously covered who the young Avengers of the MCU could be, and even though the prospect sounds amazing, the execution was less than ideal.

MCU found itself in sort of a rough patch in recent times. Both Disney+ shows and cinematic releases suffer from record-low interest, viewership, and profits. The most recent example is ‘The Marvels.’ Captain Marvel’s first solo performance in the MCU was able to rake in an impressive $1.131 billion worldwide. The projected box office numbers for upcoming movie were drastically less than that.

There’s also the issue of the general direction that the MCU is taking, which is best reflected in all the recent rumors of projects being canceled or, in large part, overhauled, like Daredevil.

Now, in a last-ditch effort to revitalize the MCU and ignite that old flame of interest, there have been rumors that the execs are considering bringing back the old Avengers cast. That would mean either retconning Black Widow’s, Iron Man’s, and Steve Rogers’ stories or playing around with some time travel and multiversal shenanigans.

According to the reputable leaker MyTimeToShineHello on X, Robert Downey Jr. has already agreed to come back.

This means that, at the least, we could expect Iron Man cameo in the future and, at best, if the rumors are true. Some fans are not exactly happy with these rumors, as it cheapen the sacrifice that Iron Man made when he traded his life in for the future of humanity. Still, it’s a superhero movie, and superheroes are being resurrected all the time in the comics, so it’s not like the premise is too outlandish to comprehend.

In any case, nothing has been confirmed so far, but it is clear that the MCU is not done with cashing in nostalgia. What do you think? Would you like to see RDJ’s Iron Man in the MCU? Let us know in the comments below!
