Rumored Marvel Project Gets Development Update

2023 was not a good movie for Marvel Studios, despite it being an incredibly important year since it was supposed to kick off the next saga and introduce the new primary villain, Kang the Conqueror. Two of our three released movies flopped, and ‘Secret Invasion’ was among the critics pronounced to be one of the worst MCU-based shows that were ever released in Disney+.

Reflecting on record-low profits, Bob Iger commented that they need to focus on quality over quantity, and this is why the 2024 release slate is rather humble, with ‘Deadpool 3’ likely being the only movie to be released. Several other projects were pushed back, like ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ due to needing extensive reshoots. ‘Daredevil: Born Again’ received a complete overhaul after more than half of the episodes had been shot. And the rest of the projects were affected by the SAG-AFTRA strike that paralyzed productions everywhere not just in the MCU.

One project, however, that was foreshadowed by the recent release, ‘The Marvels,’ is still going strong, and yes we’re talking about ‘Young Avengers.’ What reportedly started as a live-action Disney+ show was converted into a movie, and now it seems that the movie is in active development.

The recent issue of Production Weekly revealed that the Young Avengers feature film is officially in “active development.” According to the publication, Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito are slated as producers, with the Production Coordinator at Marvel serving as the primary point of contact. Additionally, the report includes a generic blurb sourced from the comics and hints at production starting in 2025.

This goes hand-in-hand with the recent rumors that the movie was in active development even a few months ago with the release date ready as soon as 2026.

The story with Young Avengers started with ‘The Marvels.’ The post-credits scene of ‘The Marvels’ sees Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel recruited Kate Bishop into her own new initiative; she also asked about Lang’s daughter, Cassie, who, as ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ goes under the alias Stature. The rumored members of the Young Avengers also include Skaar (Hulk’s son), Wiccan and Speed, America Chavez, Kid Loki, Ironheart, Toussaint, Patriot, and Love from ‘Love & Thunder.’

The Young Avengers just might set up the future of the MCU since likely, it’s heading for a soft reboot keeping only new superheroes, mutants, and Fantastic Four who are scheduled to be introduced in the next few phases.
