It’s been over four years since Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, the original Captain America, passed his iconic shield to his friend and teammate Sam Wilson. The ending of ‘Avengers: Endgame’ gave Steve Rogers a happy ending and opened the way for Anthony Mackie’s Falcon to become the next Captain America. However, as we’ve seen in 2021’s ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier,’ Sam initially refused to take the shield but ultimately decided to become Steve Rogers’ successor after it became obvious that the US government wouldn’t let the shield stay in the museum.

The fourth Captain America movie was reported to be in development shortly after the conclusion of ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.’ The movie was officially announced by Kevin Feige as ‘Captain America: New World Order’ at 2022’s San Diego Comic-Con. Last year, the title was changed to ‘Captain America: Brave New World.’

Soon after, new set photos resurfaced that showed King Cobra and Serpent Society on set. Serpent Society is an organization of snake-themed criminals and villains. The Society was established by Sidewinder and served as a spiritual organization to the Serpent Squad. The Society was created to unite all snakes of the world under one roof and offer them better pay, benefits, and job security. The group found itself at the center of various scandals over the years and often clashed with Captain America, Daredevil, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and other notable superheroes.

Don’t get me wrong Serpent Society was never meant to be the primary villain in the movie, but it looks like their role has been completely eliminated following SAG-AFTRA strikes, reshoots, and various re-writes.

According to notable leaker and scooper CanWeGetSomeToast the action scenes featuring Serpent Society were the first major action pieces that were supposed to feature Captain America. Diamondback might still be in the new version of the movie.

This is nothing strange, however, as reports that ‘Brave New World’ was undergoing extensive reshoots and rewrites were reported last year. ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ initially switched release dates with ‘Deadpool 3’ since the movie was only halfway done when the strike began. But then rumors resurfaced that ‘Captain America’ is undergoing another round of reshoots, allegedly due to test screenings being less than satisfactory. More recently, additional details resurfaced that, apparently, action filmed so far was underwhelming when compared to previous installments in the series.

Marvel Studios has hired Matthew Orton to work as a screenwriter on reshoots, and one more round is scheduled for spring-summer of 2024. In case you missed it, ‘Captain America: Brave New World’ won’t be released in 2024 after all. It was pushed back to February 14, 2025, and if the reshoots go well, we can expect the movie to respect that release schedule.
