Rumors: Sony, Feige & Holland Are Still Trying To Decide Whether ‘Spider-Man 4’ Will Be a Street-Level or Multiversal Story

MCU is currently in its ‘Multiverse Saga.’ A collection of films, TV series, and specials spanning Phase Four, Phase Five, and Phase Six. It started with ‘WandaVision’ and is set to conclude with ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’ The saga is characterized by its focus on the Multiverse concept, which plays a significant role throughout its storytelling.

However, despite the overall Saga focusing on the concept of Multiverse in some projects it will play a larger role than in others, due to the nature of superheroes on which the projects focus. We already know that ‘Echo’ for example had little or no connection to the multiverse, focusing on street-level superheroes and villains, and the same thing can be expected with the upcoming ‘Daredevil: Born Again.’

So where does Spider-Man come in? A couple of months back there were rumors going around that Daredevil would be featured in the upcoming ‘Spider-Man 4’ which is currently in development, this pointed in the direction of Spider-Man’s story continuing on the Street level and fans were generally glad to hear it. But, in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ the Multiverse theme was already prominently featured.

Now if rumors are correct, Kevin Feige, Tom Holland, and Sony are discussing in which direction the story of The ‘Spider-Man’ franchise should be continued. The rumor comes from Alex Perez, a notable scooper and leaker on X.

Taking into account other Spider-Man projects such as movies starring Miles Morales, ‘Madame Web,’ and the upcoming ‘Spider-Man Noir’ show it’s obvious that the Multiverse theme would make perfect sense. However, there’s also the fact that Daredevil and Kingpin, traditionally one of the most notable Spider-Man villains are also going to become a massive part of the MCU.

In any case, little is known regarding the plot of the upcoming ‘Spider-Man’ movie, but on February 14, 2023, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kevin Feige revealed that the film’s story had been completed and that the writers were beginning to pen the film’s script, so in whichever way the story goes there is bound to be at least some rewrites.
