Director Brett Ratner is reportedly joining a high-profile trip to China alongside U.S. President Donald Trump, as part of early planning for the upcoming film Rush Hour 4.

The information comes from a report by the South China Morning Post, which says Ratner will be part of a larger delegation traveling to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping. The group is expected to include major business and tech figures such as Elon Musk and Apple CEO Tim Cook.

According to the report, Ratner’s role on the trip is connected to early production planning for Rush Hour 4. He is expected to scout filming locations in China as part of preparations for shooting the movie there.

The trip is described as a high-level economic and diplomatic summit. Alongside Ratner, the delegation reportedly includes executives from major global companies such as BlackRock, Blackstone, Mastercard, Boeing, and Meta. The goal of the visit is said to be improving relations between the United States and China after years of trade tensions.

The report also says that the idea of reviving the Rush Hour franchise has been of interest to Trump, who allegedly pushed for a return of the series. The films originally starred Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker and became global hits in the late 1990s and 2000s.

Ratner is known for directing earlier Hollywood films such as Red Dragon, The Family Man, and Tower Heist. He also directed “Rush Hour” films, which helped make him a major box office director during that period.

His career later slowed after multiple allegations of sexual misconduct were made against him in 2017. Ratner has denied those allegations. Since then, he has stayed mostly out of major Hollywood film directing roles.

He returned to attention recently with the documentary Melania, which focused on First Lady Melania Trump. The film was picked up by Amazon for a reported $40 million deal, although it later earned less at the global box office. Amazon later said its streaming performance also played a role in its overall success.

Now, according to the South China Morning Post report, Ratner is preparing for what could be a major comeback project with Rush Hour 4. The film is expected to be a big test for him as he returns to a major Hollywood franchise.
