[Interview] Secret Invasion’s Ventsislav Yankov Claims Fans Will Be Overjoyed with Action & Suspense
In exactly one week’s time, Marvel’s ‘Secret Invasion‘ premieres, and to say that the fans are excited would be an understatement. The show is loosely based on the famous comic ‘Secret Invasion’ storyline, which is known to be among the greatest storylines in Marvel Comics in general.
We had an opportunity to discuss the upcoming series with Ventsislav Yankov, who is set to appear in the role of an FSB Commander. Ventsislav is a professional actor with an abounding background in the industry. He graduated from Falmouth University with a degree in screenwriting. Viewers may recognize him from his role in Season 3 of the UK Series ‘Killing Eve.’ Now he is set to appear in ‘Secret Invasion’, staring alongside the greats like Samuel L. Jackson and Olivia Colman.
CB: Thank you, Ventsislav, for providing us with this opportunity to pick your brain regarding ‘Secret Invasion.’ How familiar were you with the overall Marvel Comics and Marvel Cinematic Universe before you took on the role?
Ventsislav: This is the first superhero project I am taking part in. I’ve been familiar enough with the Marvel Cinematic Universe before taking the role, however. I’ve been watching Captain America, Avengers, Iron Man, and other movies in the franchise.
Secret Invasion is one of the most anticipated Marvel series this year. What can you tell us about your character’s involvement in the storyline without giving away any spoilers?
I can not reveal much of it due to the NDA signed, but I may say my character is interesting to play. He is an FSB Commander.
How does your character’s role in Secret Invasion differ from other roles you’ve played in the past? Was there something that surprised you or something that you had to take on additional training for?
Every role I play is different for me because it allows me to express a part of me that is often unknown, even to myself. This is also the beauty of the acting profession, namely the opportunity to give life to the other “I” in you. There is a lot to uncover in each person. In this sense, my role in Secret Invasion is different, but it helped me to uncover a different part of myself.
What was it like working with the cast and crew of Secret Invasion? Any memorable experiences you can share from the set? What is the craziest thing that you’ve witnessed?
Being a part of this project was an extraordinary honor! Being among some of the best actors of our time, such as Samuel Jackson, Olivia Colman, Emilia Clarke, Ben Mendelsohn, and many others, was a huge challenge and an honor for me! I was extremely proud to play with one of the most significant and wonderful actresses in world cinema of our time, Olivia Colman! Thank God & Marvel Studios for providing me & my agent Patrick Warrington with this opportunity. I believe that God believes in me and that the best is yet to come!
Marvel fans are known for their attention to detail and passion for the source material. Do you think that Secret Invasion so far is as close to being a faithful adaptation as possible?
Yes! Definitely!
The show promises to be a complex and thrilling series. What can we expect from the show, particularly in terms of action and suspense? Can you share some details?
I believe the show will respond to the fans’ expectations in terms of action and suspense.
MCU has one of the biggest fanbases in the world. How does it feel to be a part of such a popular global phenomenon? Would you be willing to return to the MCU in a different role?
It feels like a great honor to me! I would definitely return to a different role if I was offered one by Marvel Studios.
What are your plans for the future? Do you have any upcoming projects to share? What should we keep an eye out for?
My agent Patrick Warrington is negotiating a few new projects. We will see where this will lead us. I am also willing to film a script of mine called ‘Duel.’ The role of a producer can be challenging but also quite rewarding!
