‘Severance’ Season 3 Gets Promising Production Update as Fans Wait for Return

Few shows have tested fan patience quite like ‘Severance,’ a series that has built its reputation on eerie corporate dread and painfully long gaps between seasons. With Season 2 wrapped since early last year, anticipation for any concrete sign of movement on Season 3 has been building for months, and this week gave fans something concrete to latch onto.

Apple renewed the Emmy-winning psychological thriller for a third season immediately following the Season 2 finale, and speculation about a production timeline has been swirling ever since. Reports throughout the year pointed to a filming window sometime between spring and summer 2026, with estimates shifting depending on the source, leaving fans stuck piecing together scattered clues rather than getting a firm answer.

That uncertainty appears to be resolving now, with new production listings reportedly placing Season 3 under the working title Buffalo, scheduled to film in New York from July 7 through December 2. The listings reportedly attach stars Adam Scott, Britt Lower, and John Turturro to the shoot, aligning with a filming window that several outlets had already flagged as the most likely landing spot for cameras to start rolling.

The timing lines up with hints cast members have been dropping for weeks. Turturro previously told Collider at the Sundance Film Festival that he had heard filming was targeting July rather than the springtime rumors circulating at the time, and that update now appears to be holding up. Combined with reported “very soon” teases from Scott and mentions from Lower about the script being ready, the pieces finally seem to be falling into place for fans who have spent over a year refreshing their feeds for any sign of movement.

Severance has never been a show that moves quickly. The gap between Season 1 and Season 2 stretched nearly three years, driven in part by the industry-wide writers and actors strikes that halted production entirely for months. This time around, Apple has been more directly involved behind the scenes, having acquired the intellectual property and full production rights to the series from Fifth Season earlier this year, a move that has reportedly given the streamer more control over budgeting and scheduling than it had during the previous two seasons.

That shift in ownership appears to be paying off in terms of pacing. If the July filming start holds, it would represent a noticeably shorter turnaround than the wait fans endured between the first two seasons, even accounting for the show’s notoriously long post-production process driven by its complex sound design, editing, and visual effects work.

How excited are you for Severance Season 3?

Should production wrap on schedule in early December as reported, industry estimates for post production timelines suggest a possible premiere sometime in 2027, continuing Apple’s pattern of treating ‘Severance’ as a flagship prestige series worth the extended wait. The show remains one of Apple TV’s most decorated properties, having collected dozens of Emmy nominations along with wins for its cast.

For now, all of this remains tied to production listings and fan reporting rather than an official studio announcement, so plenty could still shift between now and whenever cameras actually start rolling. Still, for a fanbase that has spent well over a year with no confirmed word on Lumon’s next chapter, even an unconfirmed production listing is enough to spark real excitement.
