‘Sinners’ Star Michael B. Jordan Reveals the First Striking First Look for His ‘Thomas Crown Affair’ Remake

Heist films thrive on a certain kind of magnetism, the ability to make a criminal feel less like a villain and more like an irresistible force of charisma. Few roles in cinema history have leaned into that idea quite as effectively as Thomas Crown, and now a new leading man is stepping into that legacy.

Michael B. Jordan has spent the better part of a decade building toward this exact moment, having first pitched the idea of reviving the classic character back in 2016. What started as a passion project has steadily evolved into one of Amazon MGM’s most anticipated releases heading into 2027.

That anticipation just got a major visual boost. The first official poster for ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’ has arrived, showing Jordan in a crisp white tuxedo, one gloved hand resting thoughtfully against his chin, alongside the film’s tagline: “Revenge is a work of art.” The image confirms Jordan is taking on double duty as both director and star, marking his first time helming a project of this scale outside the ‘Creed’ franchise.

The film marks the third overall adaptation of the story, following the original 1968 version starring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway, and the 1999 remake led by Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. Jordan’s take reimagines the tale of a wealthy, debonair thief who pulls off an audacious heist, only to find himself locked in a seductive game of cat and mouse with the investigator hired to catch him.

That investigator role is being played by Adria Arjona, who stepped into the part after Taylor Russell exited the production due to creative differences. The film’s supporting cast reads like a genuine ensemble showcase, featuring Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, Pilou Asbæk, Ruth Negga, and Aubrey Plaza rounding out the roster.

Behind the camera, Jordan is working from a script penned by Drew Pearce, known for his work on ‘The Fall Guy’ and ‘Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation’. Cinematographer Bradford Young is handling the visuals, while musician Jon Batiste has been confirmed to compose the film’s score, adding another layer of prestige to the project’s already stacked creative team.

According to plot details revealed at CinemaCon, Crown’s motivations in this version go deeper than simple thrill-seeking, as his character reportedly sets out to recover artifacts stolen, misappropriated, or sold away from their original creators throughout history. That framing gives the remake a slightly different moral undercurrent compared to previous versions, positioning Crown’s crimes as something closer to reclamation than pure indulgence.

The film is set to release theatrically and in IMAX on March 5, 2027, distributed by Amazon MGM Studios domestically and Sony Pictures Releasing International overseas. Given the poster’s bold declaration that “revenge is a work of art,” it seems clear this version intends to lean fully into style, seduction, and high-stakes tension in equal measure.

With Jordan continuing to expand his footprint as both a leading man and a filmmaker through his Outlier Society banner, ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’ represents another significant swing at prestige, genre-elevating storytelling. Whether it can carve out its own identity alongside two beloved predecessors remains to be seen, but the first poster alone suggests Jordan isn’t playing it safe.
