Blockbusters rarely stay in the headlines for two months, but ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has done exactly that. Since opening on July 31, the film has kept setting records, passing rival after rival on the all-time charts. Tom Holland’s latest outing as Peter Parker has turned into one of the biggest theatrical stories in years.

The numbers behind that run have been remarkable from the start. The film opened to a record $360M domestically and $932M worldwide, and it crossed $1B globally in just six days. It reached $2B after only three weekends, and along the way it became Sony’s highest-grossing release ever.

Now the global box office total is closing in on another rare benchmark. According to the latest figures shared by box office watcher Luiz Fernando on X, ‘Brand New Day’ has reached about $2.48B worldwide and could cross $2.5B within the next two weeks. That would make it only the third film in history to reach that mark.

The film’s eighth weekend overseas brought in $10.8M, a drop of just 44%. Its international total now stands at $1.53B across 66 markets. Combined with a domestic total of $944.5M, that pushes the worldwide gross to the $2.48B level.

Fernando also projected a global run of $2.5B to $2.6B. That is an analyst’s estimate, not an official figure, but the film’s steady holds make it look plausible. He pointed out that the film carries a $225M production budget before marketing costs.

The company at that level is extremely small. ‘Avatar’ leads the all-time chart with about $2.92B, followed by ‘Avengers: Endgame’ at roughly $2.8B. Both crossed $2.5B in their original runs, with ‘Endgame’ getting there in 20 days and ‘Avatar’ needing 72.

Everything below that pair is a step down. ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ finished around $2.3B, and ‘Titanic’ sits at about $2.26B. ‘Brand New Day’ has already passed both of those films, along with ‘Ne Zha 2,’ to take third place.

The international performance has been especially strong. China has been the top overseas market with $227.4M as of early September, followed by the UK, Mexico, France and Brazil. The film also became Sony’s highest-grossing release ever in 56 international territories, according to Deadline.

Local records have piled up too. It became India’s biggest Hollywood release ever, and it took the top spot as the biggest film of all time in Brazil and Spain after just two weekends. Those results helped power a summer season that reached $4.765B globally, the highest on record.

North America has been just as important. On Sept. 16, ‘Brand New Day’ passed ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ at $936.773M to become the highest-grossing film ever at the domestic box office. It remains the biggest film of 2026 worldwide, well ahead of ‘The Odyssey,’ which sits second.

The domestic total is now close to $950M, but Variety noted that reaching $1B in North America is unlikely without a re-release. That makes the global race the more interesting one. Crossing $2.5B would be a fitting new milestone for a film that has already broken so many records.

There are still some obstacles. Overseas weekends are getting smaller, and the film’s daily grosses are shrinking each week. Even so, only a modest amount is needed to pass $2.5B, which makes the milestone look close.

Beyond that, the film’s position on the chart is unlikely to change much. ‘Avengers: Endgame’ is getting a re-release this month, and Deadline expects that to widen its lead over ‘Brand New Day.’ Still, third place all time is an extraordinary spot for any film.

Will Spider-Man: Brand New Day cross $2.5 billion worldwide?
