Some celebrity couples keep their working relationship strictly professional, but Tom Holland and Zendaya have never been shy about blending their real-life romance with the decade of Spider-Man history they’ve built together on screen. Their press tours have become almost as beloved as the movies themselves, often turning into a running highlight reel of inside jokes and nostalgia.

That dynamic was on full display again this week when Zendaya found herself fielding a question about her husband’s filmography during a recent press stop. Interviewers have grown fond of asking the couple to reflect on their years working together, and this particular question pushed her to imagine reliving one specific movie all over again.

Asked which Tom Holland film she would want to watch again for the very first time, Zendaya’s first answer was ‘The Impossible.’

The Impossible (2012) is a survival drama based on the real experience of a family caught in the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami while vacationing in Thailand. The story follows Maria (Naomi Watts), her husband Henry (Ewan McGregor), and their three sons after the tsunami tears the family apart.

Tom Holland plays Lucas Bennett, the family’s 12-year-old eldest son. This was one of Holland’s earliest major film roles, years before he became Spider-Man.

Her other pick was ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ beacuse of course it is!

Holland himself has previously opened up about this exact ritual, describing how he and Zendaya will occasionally sit down to rewatch their earliest work together as a way of reconnecting with who they were when they first started out. He’s called the experience a gift, one that lets them relive their youth and remember what it felt like to be so new to the industry and to each other.

That kind of sentimental attachment makes sense given how much has changed since Zendaya first stepped into the role of MJ back in 2017. What began as her MCU debut opposite Holland’s Peter Parker eventually grew into three Spider-Man films together, a real-life relationship, and now marriage, all threaded through the same character arc that first brought them together.

Their chemistry has remained one of the most consistently praised elements of the franchise, carrying through every subsequent installment and reportedly translating just as strongly behind the scenes. With ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ now marking their fourth outing together as Peter and MJ, it’s easy to see why looking back at where it all began would carry so much emotional weight for either of them.

The couple’s history together extends well beyond the Spider-Man franchise at this point, too, having recently starred alongside each other in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey.’ That expanding shared filmography only adds more weight to nostalgic questions like this one, giving fans an ever-growing catalog of Holland performances for Zendaya to choose from.

Moments like these have become a defining part of how the public gets to experience their relationship, offering glimpses of genuine sentimentality tucked between the usual press tour banter. For a couple who met as teenagers on a franchise that’s now spanned nearly a decade, it’s not hard to understand why revisiting that earliest chapter still holds such a strong pull.

With ‘Brand New Day’ currently dominating conversation across the press circuit, it seems fitting that questions about their shared history keep resurfacing right alongside it. Whatever she ultimately meant by wanting to watch it again for the first time, it’s clear that nostalgia for where their story began remains very much alive.
