Star Wars: Who Does Princess Leia Marry? Love Interests Explained

As one of the three main characters of the original Star Wars trilogy, Leia Organa is one of the most important characters in the storyline of Star Wars and plays a role that’s just as important during the events of the sequel trilogy. Of course, it was her romantic relationship that paved the way for some of the most important events of the sequel trilogy. So, who does Princess Leia marry in the storyline of Star Wars?

Does Princess Leia love Han or Luke?

The storyline of Star Wars started with the original main trio of Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo. They were introduced in the first Star Wars movie in 1977, where their storylines converged with one another. Leia was the first to be introduced as she was a Rebel leader in the middle of a troublesome encounter with the Empire, as Luke and Han eventually had to work together to rescue her.

Of course, ever since the first Star Wars movie, the relationship of Leia with the other two main members of the cast has been quite interesting. That’s because it was clear that Luke thought that Princess Leia was beautiful. Meanwhile, Han and Leia clearly had tension between them, as this tension continued in the second movie, which is ‘Empire Strikes Back.’

In the second Star Wars movie, Leia and Han kept bickering with one another, carrying over the same dynamic that they had in the first movie. On the other hand, Leia seemed to be quite comfortable with Luke and hardly ever argued with him. It even came to a point wherein Leia kissed Luke right in front of Han to make the resident bad boy of Star Wars jealous. But while Leia did indeed kiss Luke, she was obviously attracted to Han.

It was in the same movie where Leia and Han kissed. Eventually, the relationship improved as Leia confessed her love to Han before he got frozen in carbonite. This means that Leia always loved Han and was oddly attracted to him even though she still believed that he was a scoundrel.

As for Luke, Leia still loved him but in a different way. During the events of the third movie of the original trilogy, Luke tells Leia that there is something special between them as he makes it clear to her that they are siblings. Leia told Luke during the events of ‘Return of the Jedi’ that a part of her always knew that he was her brother. As such, Leia also loved Luke, but in a way that a sister should love her brother.

Did Leia have a boyfriend before Han?

After Luke and Leia rescue Han from Jabba the Hut in ‘Return of the Jedi,’ Solo works together with the Rebels to take down the Empire. While his relationship with Leia stays the same, it is after the death of the Emperor that Leia tells Han that Luke is her brother. This means that there was no longer anything stopping Leia and Han from getting together as they shared a passionate moment after the victory of the Empire.

But even before Leia and Han got together, Leia was not innocent in matters of romance because she actually had a boyfriend in the past. This was when she was just a teenager as she was just a young politician when she met Dar Champion during regent training. Leia and Dar never broke up formally because Leia stood him up at their graduation due to the fact that Dar’s father was involved in a huge political scandal.

In the comics, Leia and Dar reunited during the Rebellion period, as Han was surprised to learn that Leia had a boyfriend before. Of course, while Dar did indeed help Leia, there was a scuffle. Dar eventually apologized to Leia and Han for the spoiled evening but was quick to realize that the two had feelings for one another. As such, Leia and Dar never rekindled their old flame.

Leia and Han got married after defeating the Empire

As for Leia and Han, the two eventually got married right after the events that transpired in ‘Return of the Jedi.’ The two got engaged after the death of the Emperor, as the main trio decided to stay on Endor for the wedding.

Leia and Han got married on 4 ABY, just a while after Emperor Palpatine’s death. The wedding between Leia Organa and Han Solo took place on the Forest Moon of Endor. After the wedding, the couple took their honeymoon on the Halcyon luxury Star Cruiser. The marriage between Leia and Han gave birth to their one and only son, Ben Solo, who eventually became Kylo Ren.

Did Han and Leia get divorced?

While we all know that Leia and Han got married and had a son together, it was actually their marriage that led to the biggest events that took place 30 years later during the events of the sequel trilogy. And that’s because Ben Solo was one of the most important figures of that time period.

Ben eventually falls to the dark side after learning about the dark history of the Skywalker family and when he gets tempted by the leader of the Knights of Ren and by none other than Supreme Leader Snoke. The fall of Ben to the dark side was what triggered a complicated relationship between Leia and Han as they separated.

While it may be true that Leia and Han were separated after the disagreements and arguments they had over their son’s fall to the dark side, it was never confirmed whether or not their marriage was dissolved. That means that there was no mention of a divorce.

However, because Leia still continued to carry the Solo family name, we can make the assumption that she and Han never got divorced because they still deeply loved one another. It’s just that they couldn’t see eye to eye in relation to what they had to do with their son, and that was why they eventually decided to live separate lives despite being married to one another.
