Stephen Kalyn Joins Sydney Sweeney in ‘The Housemaid’s Secret,’ and He’s Playing a Very Familiar Type of Love Interest
Lionsgate struck box office gold last year with ‘The Housemaid‘, a twisty thriller that quietly became one of 2025’s biggest surprises. Built on Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel and led by Sydney Sweeney, the film pulled in more than $400 million worldwide against a modest $35 million budget, numbers that made a sequel practically inevitable.
That sequel, ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’, has spent the past several months steadily building out its cast, with Paul Feig once again directing from a script by returning screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine. Sweeney is back as Millie Calloway, joined by Michele Morrone reprising his role as the gardener Enzo, alongside newcomers Kirsten Dunst and Paul Anthony Kelly playing a wealthy couple with secrets of their own.
The cast just grew again, with ‘Off Campus’ breakout Stephen Kalyn officially closing a deal to join the ensemble. Kalyn will play Brock, described as a handsome lawyer who becomes Millie’s love interest as she attempts to rebuild something resembling a normal life after years spent fighting to rescue women from abusive situations.
Kalyn joins a growing roster that also includes Brittany Snow as Marybeth, an unassuming receptionist working at the husband’s company. His casting caps off months of speculation that had circled the actor as a potential fit for the project, with reports first surfacing back in July before the deal was finalized.
The story picks up with Millie taking a new housekeeping job for a wealthy CEO named Douglas Garrick, played by Kelly, working for a woman she’s never actually allowed to see in person. As with the original film, that arrangement hides a far darker secret behind a locked door, one that threatens to expose truths more dangerous than anything Millie herself is hiding.
Dunst steps into the role of the mysterious Mrs. Garrick, marking a notable new addition to the franchise’s growing ensemble of recognizable names. The character dynamics echo the original film’s central tension between Millie and the wealthy family she works for, though this time the mystery surrounding her employer promises to run even deeper.
Kalyn’s involvement also marks a significant career moment for the Canadian actor, who first broke through with a supporting role in Prime Video’s ‘Off Campus’ before quickly becoming one of the platform’s most talked-about new faces. Landing a role opposite Sweeney in a high-profile studio thriller represents a clear step up in visibility for an actor whose career has moved unusually fast over the past year.
‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ is currently set for a theatrical release on December 17, 2027, giving Lionsgate roughly a year and a half to finish assembling the rest of its cast and crew. With the first film having proven there’s a real appetite for McFadden’s twisty domestic thrillers, expectations are already running high for how this follow-up will build on that success.
