Top 15 Superheroes That Wear Green, or Are Green (Ranked)

Top 15 Superheroes That Wear Green or Are Green Ranked
Share:

Green. The most natural color in the world. It’s found on the trees that give life, the grass that we walk on, and the algae in the water we run from. Green is the color of life. Green is the color of growth. And green is the color that some superheroes choose to wear into battle. Of course, because this is a comic site, it’s the last that interests me.

In the world of comics, more superheroes wear green than I can count. Of the many, however, there are only a handful that stand out. Of all the superheroes that wear green, only a few are extremely important. Right? But who are they? Glad you asked. Allow me to present you with the most iconic superheroes that wear green or have green skin, of all time.

15. Miss Martian

Miss Martian

Miss Martian is a White Martian who became a member of the Teen Titans and adopted the name Megan Morse on Earth. Originally sent to the Vega system to escape the war on Mars, her arrival on Earth remains unknown.

Initially posing as a Green Martian, M’gann joins the Teen Titans but later leaves due to misunderstandings and insensitivity. She becomes a hero in Australia but is later proven to be loyal and helps defeat the actual traitor within the team. Despite, everything she managed to land on our list of best green superheroes.

14. Polaris

Polaris

Lorna Dane, aka Polaris, is better known as Magneto’s daughter, and as such she inherited a portion of her father’s powers. Initially manipulated by Mesmero, she was rescued by the X-Men and joined their ranks but later decided to pursue an education in geophysics. Despite her desire for a different life, Polaris has been consistently drawn back into mutant conflicts, making her a significant figure in the mutant community and a prominent member of X-Factor.

Polaris is not green-skinned, but she is notable for wearing green and her powers being manifested as green.

13. The Spectre

The Spectre

The Spectre might not be the most famous character on this list, but he is certainly the most powerful. The Spectre is a cosmic entity that serves as the embodiment of god’s wrath here on Earth, and even though he doesn’t have green skin, the sight of his iconic green cape makes everyone tremble in fear.

12. Mantis

Green Skinned Mantis

Mantis as a character rose to prominence with the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ trilogy in the MCU, prior to that, she was a relatively obscure character, and this is why many fans don’t know that Mantis’ skin tone changed several times over the long history of characters existence.

Mantis is currently yellowish in the comics, but yup, she used to be green.

11. Beast Boy

Beast Boy

Garfield Logan, known otherwise as “Beast Boy,” contracted a peculiar disease called Sakutia, and the serum meant to cure him complicated his life. After taking the cure Beast Boy gained the ability to transform into any animal imaginable, but also, his hair and skin turned green.

10. Gamora

Gamora

Gamora is the most feared woman in the galaxy … and for good reason. Her extensive training allows her to stand toe-to-toe with practically anyone and almost always walks away as the victor. But it isn’t just that that makes her so feared. On top of being highly trained, she is also one of the deadliest assassins in Marvel.

Gamora, as you’ve probably guessed, is one of the superheroes that wear green. There is, however, one small caveat. She doesn’t wear it by choice. Gamora, like a few others on this list, was born green. That aside, there is no denying she is one of the best green superheroes.

9. Iron Fist

Iron Fist

Below average Netflix adaption aside, Danny Rand is still one of my favorite Marvel characters. And why?

His costume looks awesome, he plunged his fist into a dragon’s heart, the book by Ed Brubaker, Matt Fraction, David Aja, and Travel Foreman is one of the greatest stories ever written, and he’s my favorite color, green.

The Iron Fist is arguably Marvel’s greatest fighter, is one-half of Heroes For Hire, a member of the Avengers and Defenders, and a sworn enemy of The Steel Serpent. He is proficient in just about every form of Martial Arts and can beat most fighters in battle before they even move their left foot. Iron Fist is one of the best superheroes that wear green.

8. She-Hulk

She-Hulk Origin

As the cousin to Bruce Banner, it was inevitable that Jennifer Walters became the female version of the Hulk

On one fateful day after being shot, Jennifer found herself in a hospital in need of a blood transfusion. Unfortunately, of all the people in the hospital, no one except her visiting cousin Bruce had her blood type. Even though he feared what could happen if his blood were to get into her body, Bruce elected to give it to her anyway. Thankfully, the transfusion worked, and Jennifer’s life was saved.

Jennifer turned into the incredibly strong and green She-Hulk as a by-product of the transfusion. Unlike the Hulk, however, as the She-Hulk, she doesn’t lose control over her thoughts or actions.

7. Green Power Ranger – Tommy Oliver

Green Power Ranger Tommy Oliver

I am very excited to have Tommy Oliver on this list of superheroes who wear green. Not only is he the Green and eventual White Power Ranger, but growing up, he was my favorite.

As the Green Ranger, Tommy has control over the dreaded Dragonzord. That’s right, different from the other Rangers who called upon dinosaurs, Tommy got to call upon a dragon. However, his dragon didn’t require the other Zords to transform into something bigger and better. Nope, his was standalone awesomeness that could meld with the others if he so desired.

6. Swamp Thing

Swamp Thing

There’s no mistaking Swamp Thing as one of the superheroes that wear green. Although, his being green isn’t by choice.

Swamp Thing came to be after scientist Alex Olson was forced to dive headfirst into a nearby swamp. He did this after his longtime friend and co-worker Damian Ridge set off an explosive in his lab. At the time of the explosion, Olson was working on a bio-restorative formula. When he jumped into the swamp to avoid the explosion, the formula mixed with the natural properties of the swamp and transformed him into Swamp Thing.

As Swamp Thing, Alex is a walking green creature capable of manipulating nature around him, regrowing lost limbs, and transporting himself anywhere in the world. Even though he’s not much to look at, he’s one of the most powerful heroes in DC.

5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Sorry, Green Lanterns, but when it comes to green teams, none are as famous as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The Turtles were created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman. Although they initially had the same color bandanas, once the foursome hit Saturday morning cartoons, each was given a different color. If you’re wondering why the answer is as simple as marketing. Different colors meant that children worldwide could distinguish the difference between the group.

Since their creation, the Turtles have become a global phenomenon that continues to this very day. They can be found on lunchboxes, trading cards,

movies, comics, stickers, toys, and clothes. When it comes to all of the great 1980s and early 1990s animated television shows, none have had the staying power of the Ninja Turtles.

4. Martian Manhunter

Martian Manhunter

When polled, most would say that Superman is the most powerful being in DC Comics. In actuality, however, it might very well be Martian Manhunter. And as you probably guessed, he’s green.

Martian Manhunter possesses the ability to shape-shift. He can turn himself invisible, and he can phase through just about anything. He is also able to heal himself and has flight, telepathy, and enhanced senses. And, more than any of these, he possesses superhuman strength, speed, durability, and stamina. Basically, what I’m saying is there isn’t too much he can’t do.

3. Green Lantern – Hal Jordan

Green Lantern - Hal Jordan

The Green Lanterns are the intergalactic police force of DC Comics. They are charged with patrolling the galaxy and keeping peace and order throughout it. Although this may seem daunting, understand that each Lantern (and there are a lot of them) is given a Sector to patrol. Hal Jordan, for example, patrols Sector 2814.

As a group of characters with the word green in their name, it should be no surprise that Hal Jordan Green is on this list. I mean, not only is his costume green, but the entire Lantern Corps also has green costumes. In truth, I could’ve dedicated this entire list to the Lanterns, but I didn’t because I already made a Green Lantern list. Anyway, Hal’s inclusion was an easy one.

However, he and the Green Lanterns aren’t the only ones with Green in their name…

2. Green Arrow

Green Arrow

Oliver Queen is the Green Arrow. As the Green Arrow, Oliver has sworn to keep law and order wherever he goes. Of course, he does this primarily in Star City, but that’s not the point. The point is that villains all over the world fear Green Arrow because, different from most heroes, Oliver isn’t afraid to go the extra mile to see justice happen.

As his name implies, the Green Arrow primarily uses arrows to defend whichever street he’s on. But they aren’t just any arrows. No, no, no. These arrows can do just about anything that you can think up. Boxing glove arrows. Net arrows. Explosive arrows. Glue arrows. And so much more.

1. Hulk

Sakaar and Planet Hulk

Arguably the most famous green hero, the Incredible Hulk, is both powerful and ferocious. But he wasn’t always green.

Due to technological restraints, the Incredible Hulk actually began his days as a grey hero. That’s right. His very first appearance actually saw him as a giant grey monster. It wasn’t until issue number two that he finally took on his famous green skin color.

The Hulk is mostly associated with the Avengers as a big green monster. However, This doesn’t mean he’s only served Earth Mightiest Heroes. He has been part of the Defenders, Fantastic Four, and the Avengers.

And that’s it. The best green superheroes. What do you think? Who’d make your list?
