‘The Devil’s Mouth’ Trailer Unleashes a Deadly Cave Nightmare With Kathryn Newton and Lana Condor
The Devil’s Mouth brings a terrifying twist to the classic post-graduation trip story, turning a dream vacation in Thailand into a deadly fight for survival. The upcoming Prime Video thriller stars Kathryn Newton, Lana Condor, Nico Hiraga, Gavin Casalegno, Tommi Rose, and Tayme Thapthimthong as a group of friends who find themselves trapped inside a dangerous cave system with a deadly predator waiting in the water.
The first trailer for the movie has now been released, giving viewers a look at the terrifying situation these friends face. Instead of a relaxing final adventure before entering adulthood, their trip quickly becomes a nightmare when they become trapped underground with limited options and a hungry bull shark hunting them.
The film follows Sara, played by Kathryn Newton, and her best friend Max, played by Lana Condor, as they deal with both the physical danger around them and the problems inside their friendship. While the shark and the cave create the obvious threat, the story also focuses on how fear changes people when they are pushed to their limits.
Newton explained that Sara’s personal journey was one of the reasons she was excited about the role. “My character, Sara, is going through something relatable with her best friend Max played by Lana Condor. Sara wants to carve her own path and assert independence but doesn’t want to lose her best friend in the process,” the actress said.
She added that the survival elements made the story even more intense. “It was an exciting script from start to finish. I couldn’t wait to attack such a complex story heightened by the life and death stakes the shark and cave brought to what Sara was going through. It was insane!”
Condor also spoke about working with the cast and praised the group dynamic behind the movie. The actress said she enjoys ensemble projects because they allow different personalities and relationships to develop naturally. “I love ensemble casts. I think they’re so much fun, and I always love when everyone has very specific character dynamics,” Condor said.
For director Jeff Wadlow, the biggest attraction of The Devil’s Mouth was not only the survival aspect but the way the characters change under pressure. He explained that the friendships were the real focus of the story.
“The shark and the cave create the nightmare, but the most interesting part for me was watching how these relationships evolved under that kind of unimaginable pressure,” Wadlow said. He added that the friendships in the script already had many layers before adding the extreme survival situation.
Making the movie was also a major physical challenge for the cast. Much of the film takes place underwater and inside caves, requiring the actors to perform difficult scenes in demanding conditions.
Wadlow praised the cast’s dedication during production. “The cast are in the water for most of the movie. They’re cold, constantly fighting the environment while trying to perform for the camera. What Kathryn, Lana, Nico, Gavin, Tommi, and Tayme brought to this film is extraordinary,” the director said.
Newton also revealed that the production pushed her outside her comfort zone. The actress said the cast trained for underwater scenes and even earned diving certifications for the movie.
“We were really in the ocean and out in nature! Kayaking into caves, diving, and swimming. Everyday on this film felt like magic,” Newton shared.
The Devil’s Mouth will arrive on Prime Video on July 29, bringing a mix of friendship drama, survival horror, and a terrifying underwater threat. The trailer suggests that escaping the cave may not be the only challenge these friends have to overcome.
