‘The Inbetweeners’ Is Officially Coming Back, and the Whole Original Gang Is Returning – Check Out the Teaser

British comedy has produced plenty of cult classics over the years, but few have managed to stay culturally relevant quite like ‘The Inbetweeners.’ The sitcom, which originally aired on E4 from 2008 to 2010, built its legacy on the excruciating misadventures of four suburban teenagers navigating the horrors of adolescence at the fictional Rudge Park Comprehensive.

That legacy carried the franchise through two feature films, with the most recent, ‘The Inbetweeners 2,’ hitting theaters back in 2014. In the years since, fans have kept the flame alive through viral clips and endless rewatches, even as talk of a third movie remained little more than persistent rumor.

Those rumors have now become reality. Netflix has confirmed that ‘The Inbetweeners 3’ has officially begun production in the UK, bringing back the franchise’s original core cast for a continuation of what the streamer described as the hugely popular sitcom and its two record-breaking films.

Simon Bird, James Buckley, Blake Harrison, and Joe Thomas are all reprising their roles as Will McKenzie, Jay Cartwright, Neil Sutherland, and Simon Cooper, the same foursome whose disastrous school years and equally disastrous holiday romances defined the show’s entire identity. Getting all four original leads back this far removed from the original run is a notably rare feat for a legacy sequel of this kind.

The creative team behind the camera is just as intact. Series creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris are returning to both write and direct the new film, having previously helmed ‘The Inbetweeners 2’ together back in 2014.

Beesley and Morris also shared a statement marking the occasion, saying it’s been super fun hanging out with their friends again and that they plan to work hard every week to make sure there are no problemos while making the new film for humans, according to Netflix’s official announcement. The lighthearted tone of that message lines up perfectly with the franchise’s long-running comedic sensibility.

Claire Jones is producing the film alongside Banijay’s Patrick Holland and Fudge Park Production’s Mark Lesbirel. A substantial group of executive producers rounds out the production, including Caroline Levy, Caroline Leddy, Phil Gilbert, Suzanne Knight, Tom Jordan, Farhana Bhula, along with Morris and Beesley themselves.

Talk of a potential third film has circulated for years, gaining real momentum last year when rights holder Banijay UK struck a deal with Beesley and Morris through their production company, Fudge Park Productions. That agreement laid the groundwork for what has now become an officially confirmed Netflix production.

To mark the announcement, Netflix released a teaser video showing the original cast squeezing back into Simon’s iconic battered yellow Fiat Cinquecento, a nostalgic callback that immediately resonated with longtime fans online. No plot details or release window have been shared yet, though the production timeline suggests fans likely won’t see the finished film until sometime in 2027.

With the same four actors and the same creative minds behind the original show all returning nearly two decades after it first premiered, ‘The Inbetweeners 3’ arrives with an unusually high bar of authenticity for a franchise revival. Whatever direction the story takes, the reunion alone marks a major moment for one of British television’s most beloved comedy exports.
