The new Prime Video series Every Year After is quickly becoming one of the most talked-about summer shows online. The series has already built a strong presence on social media, with viewers sharing both praise and criticism after binge-watching the first season.

The show is based on the popular novel Every Summer After by Carley Fortune. It follows Persephone β€œPercy” Fraser, played by Sadie Soverall, who returns to a small lakeside town after many years away. The story begins when Percy attends a wedding celebration in Seattle, but her life takes a sudden turn when she receives a phone call that brings back memories she has tried to forget.

The call comes from Charlie Florek, played by Michael Bradway, who tells her that his mother has died. This news forces Percy to return to Barry’s Bay, a fictional town in rural Ontario where she spent her teenage summers. The return is emotional and uncomfortable for her, since it also means facing Sam, her former love, and the past she left behind.

The series moves between two timelines. One timeline shows Percy as a teenager in 2011, when her family buys a summer house near the lake. There she meets Sam and Charlie, and slowly builds strong relationships that shape her teenage years. Sam becomes her closest friend and later her first love. The second timeline follows adult Percy, who is now forced to deal with the consequences of decisions made during those summers.

Much of the story focuses on the emotional tension between Percy and Sam. Their relationship is complicated and filled with breakups, misunderstandings, and long periods of silence. When they meet again as adults, both are forced to question what really happened between them and whether anything can be repaired.

The setting plays a big role in the series. Barry’s Bay is shown as a peaceful lakeside community with forests, small shops, and a close-knit atmosphere where everyone knows each other. According to viewers on social media, the summer setting and romantic tone are some of the most attractive parts of the show, even when the story becomes emotionally heavy.

The cast also includes Matt Cornett as Sam and Joseph Chiu as Jordie, along with Aurora Perrineau as Percy’s best friend Chantal. Many viewers have commented on the strong presence of young male characters in the series, which has added to its online popularity and discussion.

Reactions to the show have been mixed. Some viewers say the chemistry between Percy and Sam does not always feel natural, while others enjoy the slow and emotional development of their relationship. One common complaint is the way the story shifts between past and present, which some viewers found confusing at first.

According to audience comments collected from social platforms, one viewer said, β€œI loved it and hated it at the same time. The cliffhangers kept me watching, even when I was frustrated.”

Despite the criticism, many agree that the series is easy to watch and very addictive. Each episode ends with a cliffhanger, which encourages viewers to continue watching even late into the night.

The season also builds toward a major reveal about why Percy and Sam stopped talking for ten years. While some fans found the explanation emotional, others felt it did not fully match the buildup.

The season ends with another cliffhanger involving Charlie, leaving the story open for a possible continuation. It is not yet confirmed if Prime Video will continue adapting the rest of the book series, but early reactions suggest there is enough interest to move forward.
