‘The Odyssey’ Fans Finally Have a Home Release Window to Circle, According to Latest Reports
Christopher Nolan has built his entire career around the belief that movies belong on the biggest screen possible, a philosophy that’s made his films some of the most stubbornly theatrical experiences in modern Hollywood. That approach paid off again this summer, with his latest epic dominating box office charts for weeks after its release.
Anyone hoping to watch Nolan’s take on Homer’s classic from their couch, though, has had to wait it out. True to form, the director’s insistence on prioritizing theaters over quick digital turnarounds has left fans searching for clues about exactly when the film might finally arrive at home.
Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey‘ reportedly releases on digital on November 17, more than 120 days after its theatrical release, citing a report from ScreenRant. The outlet noted that Blu-ray.com had listed ‘The Odyssey’s’ Blu-ray and digital release date as November 17, 2026, landing exactly four months after the film’s July 17 theatrical debut.
That timing lines up closely with how Nolan handled his previous film’s home release. ‘Oppenheimer’ followed an identical pattern in 2023, arriving on both digital and Blu-ray the same day, 123 days after its own July 21 theatrical opening, and industry watchers had widely expected ‘The Odyssey’ to mirror that same four-month window given Nolan’s consistent theatrical-first stance.
‘The Odyssey’ has more than earned the extended theatrical run in the meantime. The film has become one of the highest-grossing movies of the year, trailing only ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ and recently surpassed ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’s’ $1.338 billion to become the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, with its total currently sitting at $1.35 billion worldwide.
Universal has not yet made an official announcement confirming the November date, and industry observers note the studio followed a similar pattern with ‘Oppenheimer,’ waiting until roughly a month beforehand to formally confirm those release details. That would put an official announcement from Universal sometime around mid-October if the studio follows the same playbook again.

Fans hoping to catch the film on a subscription streaming service will likely need even more patience. Peacock, expected to be the eventual streaming home for ‘The Odyssey,’ isn’t projected to add the film until sometime around February 2027, well after its digital purchase and rental window opens.
Nolan’s commitment to theatrical exclusivity isn’t new, and it’s rooted in a broader philosophy he’s expressed publicly before, arguing that the communal experience of moviegoing offers something fundamentally different from watching at home. That stance has become something of a signature for the director, even as it means asking patient fans to wait months longer than they would for a typical studio blockbuster.
With ‘The Odyssey’ continuing its historic box office run and a digital release date now seemingly locked in for November 17, audiences who’ve been holding out for a home viewing option finally have a date worth marking on the calendar, even if Universal hasn’t made it official just yet.
With a reported November 17 digital release on the horizon, are you ready to bring Nolan's epic home?
